How many have been verified as being committed by likely Trump supporters (e.g. non-minority)? No one is saying hate crimes never happen, they obviously do sometimes, but I can think of more cases of false flags when it comes to very public property crimes than legit cases. There is so much to gain by faking a hate crime: sympathy, attention, charity, insurance fraud, etc. I wouldn't be surprised if a majority of reported hate crimes are in fact fake.
 
You'd think after getting duped time and again the people and media would wait to see the results of an investigation and show some skepticism. In today's social media instant everything workd that's way too much to ask.

Yes, not just for the crime itself, but also for making it that much harder to fight real crimes of this nature in the future. Just like false rape accusations, it does a ton of damage beyond the crime itself.
