Cool, and millions of Republicans are convinced that 2020 was the best year of the lives because inflation was low and gas was cheap. The year no one could leave their house, unemployment was through the roof, hundreds of thousands of people were dying from covid, and you couldn't even get a roll of toilet paper from the grocery store.

Maybe ya'll should stop letting Republicans control the narrative?
Don't forget the price of a barrel of oil briefly went negative

My input is based on what I hear from actual low wage workers, but I guess I'll try harder to get in touch with the real world?

You already had it right earlier in the thread man. :tearsofjoy:

I have been reading this thread. It's filled with people denying the economy is great and wages are up.
Filled with people calling us conspiracy theorists for saying the same thing Robert Reich and the Fed have that the majority of inflation is just corporations padding their profits.

lol.

Like I said you guys are just totally out of touch with reality.

What’s weird is usually people stubbornly refuse to believe facts they don’t like. You guys are stubbornly refusing to believe facts you claim you DO like.

If any of you guys would like to refute my facts with something other than your hurt feelings I’m open to it.

You call this the greatest economy ever and we're the ones out of touch :tearsofjoy:

I’ve asked you repeatedly when you think was better and you refuse to answer. (For reasons that are obvious)

I’ll also take that as you declining to back up your position with any actual facts. Funny how that works.

But you talked to Burger King HR so you know how the working poor are doing :tearsofjoy:

No, I know that from the rigorous economic analysis I linked showing huge real wage gains for the working poor.

Lol. Like I said you’re totally delusional and desperately fighting to find a way to not believe good news.

That's because you are defining "the best economy" as "the best real wages" when the economy is a lot more than that.

Something I don't understand is how real wages went up from 2019 to 2022 while median income went down.

I’m not defining it that way at all. Where did you get that idea?

Half of renters spending over 30% of their income on rent is such great news as home ownership is out of reach for so much of the working class.

The obvious thing here is that it can be the best economy ever for many people and it can still suck to be 9% less broke and poor.
Yes, my point has always been that the economy is performing well but there is more work to be done. What’s baffling to me is how some people stubbornly insist that the first part isn’t happening.

What continues to amuse me is I’m the single biggest proponent on this entire site for making housing more affordable. I don’t feel it’s necessary to deny obvious realities about the economy to do that though.

I got that impression because when challenged on things like housing prices and income inequality you just point to real wages as a defense. When we said a single income could support a whole family in the 1950s you said real wages are higher now and that not everyone had refrigerators then or some shit.

You really talk like Trump. Best economy ever. I'm the single biggest proponent on the entire site for making housing more affordable. Very hard to call it a good economy when people are having to piss their money away on rent seeking. Even more shocking than half of renters spending more than 30% of income on housing is the quarter of them spending more than half. Housing, food, healthcare, education have become so expensive but hey now we don't hold onto TVs for 20 years anymore so we must be doing better.

Well that impression is wrong, although things like housing prices are reflected in real wages.

Yes, I correctly pointed out that the average American was much poorer in the 1950’s than they are today and quality of life is much better. In the 50’s 20% of houses didn’t have running water, and running water is good! About 30% didn’t have private toilets, which are also good!

I bet if you can find a place to buy or rent without running water you’ll find it very affordable.

But families have multiple cars now :tearsofjoy: (because they're absolutely necessary with dual incomes required in 2024 households and cars a virtual necessity for the right to work in America for jobs that can't be done remotely)

"Poor people are richer than ever" is certainly not something I come across... outside of you and the data you use to make that claim.
A simple explanation is that the very narrow set of data... isn't accurate.
It is a quandary to determine which is real and which is false.
lies, damn lies, and statistics.

Well if you have a time you think was better I’m very open to hearing it!

Odd that this is such a hard question for you to answer.

Okay, but a single wage earner could afford a house, a car, a refrigerator, and running water; along with food for a family of 7 in the 50s. So make that make sense.
