Question from a coworker, nobody can quite remember how to pronounce Padme.

Is it "Podme" or "Padme" (as in this is a writing pad).

I've heard and pronounced it as "pod-may," as in "iPod," not "padmay" as in writing pad. I've heard "padmay" from time to time, and it may have even been pronounced differently in the movie depending on what actor/actress you listen to, but at least where I am, it's usually "podmay."

This is what I thought, that it had even changed within the movie. I always thought it was Pod-may (ipod).

Anybody want to scan the movie and check?

Now, the big pronounciation question is for "Han Solo".

Is it Han like "Can" or Han like "Don"?

No. The real question is R2-D2. Is it arrr too, or are too, or our too?

Edit...it's Han like "Don"

From what I remember, everyone until Lando said "hon" like "don." Then he showed up in ROTJ and started saying "han" like "can".... Since the first two movies solidified the proper pronunciation before he screwed it up, "haaahn" it is. ;)

What kind of job do you have where something like this would come up in random conversation?

Apparently one of my coworkers was being harassed by her brother, not sure why that topic came up, but she thought it was Padmay, he said it was podmay. She was discussing that with my indirect boss, they both asked me since I am in the next cube and was male. I thought it was Podmay.

We work in the securitization (global capital markets) for a fortune 100 top 10 bank and are all managers or above. Do you expect us to sit around and play Direct3d Excel all day?

Again, it's a long "a" sound, but not "Hon".

no, a long a would sound like "Hane"
the a in "can" is a short a sound.

Whatever it is, you get the idea. It's the same "a" sound you make when the doctor says to say "aaaaah". You don't go "awwwwww" or "eeeeeehhhhhhh".

My kid is immersed in the Star Wars movies right now so I've been seeing them daily
The pronunciation of "Han" is all over the place. Lando says "Hon" nearly everyone else says "Han"

Face it, you work with a bunch of nerds.
