Starting at QB on flag football

Well in my work league I got asked to start for QB on the team. I like to throw and I am quick on my feet, but I've never really played any "organized" QB. I find it funny that I'm nervous about my first start!

Most nerve wracking is thinking about letting the team down by sucking. Gotta bring my best.

If it is anything like the flag football leagues I've played in, you're going to have to do a lot of running. Just being quick on your feet doesn't really cut it in flag football, especially with how easy it is for pass rushers.

ive been playing in a rec football league for the past 6 or so years, 2 seasons per year (1 in spring, 1 in fall). we won the championship one time so far. it's a ton of fun.

it is a co-ed touch league, 5 guys and 3 girls on the field, but it's competitive. we're in the high division. they tried flag one year, but none of the teams liked it so they scrapped it after that season. we were in that league and i hated it. grabbing the flags is harder than tackling people imo.

not sure how the rules are in your league, but in ours, the ref counts to 4 missippi then the rusher can rush in. i'm primarily the pass rusher on our team and i make the qb run around a lot, and am constantly putting my arms up to block the passes. i've heard qbs complain about how it's hard to get the ball around me unless they are moving as well.

and as a pass rusher, i can tell you that the qbs that give me the most trouble are the ones who CAN move around a lot, and who can get rid of the ball quick, before i even have a chance at getting in on them. but i have also been faked out by pump fakes, which will give the qb enough time to run past me. but i've become pretty discipline to that and when i'm rushing towards the qb, i rarely go for pass fakes but rather just go for the sack.

we're currently 2-0 this season and looking good so far! it's tons of fun though i'm sure you will have a blast.

^the league I've participated in (were we won 2 years in a row and the third year lost in the playoffs) we didn't have a count for the pass rushers. There was a 2 second count for any runs up the middle however. We did have offensive linemen to block. If the quarterback on any team in our league couldn't move, he wasn't doing much. We had no Payton Mannings.

That makes for a lot of interceptions as a middle linebacker for me. The QB would be forced to dump (because everyone was an eligible receiver) to the linemen who would block then release. It was so easy to read most of their eyes and simply run up and snag an interception.

We have a league with linemen and no counts. You snap the ball and the rushing starts. I had much more success when I was running around rather than standing in the pocket. I threw a load of picks which I'm not too happy about, but I'm trying to not beat myself up. I had to design the plays on the fly as well. I wish I knew about my responsibilities sooner than like 3 days ago heh.

Unfortunately it looks like I'm going to have to just start running around and kill the pass rush. I'm fine with that but it kinda takes some challenge out of it I feel. I'd like to learn how to throw in a game situation better, but the pass rush gets there too quick. Also what is the deal with people being scared of going under center. I'd love to but it is deemed gay or something. By the time I get the ball secured in my hands and my eyes are off the ball it has already been like 1.5 seconds of wasted time.

Well the lesson learned is:

Start scooting around

make sure you call your number all the time and drag your team to the title.

Then tell them how awesome they are for convincing you to play QB. Then you can watch your coworkers huddle around and have philosophical debates about the value of winning vs playing with a complete asshole.

A good thing to remember, if your linemen are eligible receivers, is that if a blitzer gets past them, they can easily turn around for a short dump pass.

I can only imagine the mentality of someone thinking getting under the center is gay. Probably the same guys who won't shower at the gym because they don't want "other men looking at their junk".

I am not sure what you're trying to say; this post is complete nonsense.

I think overall I was just overwhelmed. I had to call plays, scan the defense, watch for the inevitable very low snap, secure the ball then finally look up at my players and have about 1 second to make a decision. Unless I took off then I could make something happen a little easier.

I don't want to shower with dudes cause I don't want to see their junk haha. Look at mine all you want. I think it would help a lot though being under center, especially given that I feel I take too long to secure the ball.

Plays are crucial. I'd draw up some simple cards for everyone to tape to their wrists. Sounds like overkill but it helps a ton.

I learned quickly that running directly at the opposition made it that much harder for them to take my flag.
