A p2 266 w/ 4GB hd and 128mb ram.....

But, this is the cool part. My supervisor said "I know that's slow, so go to Dell's website and figure out what you need to get, and I'll approve it".

I get to go configure me a new dell :)

I have a P3 733 with 128 MB here at work.

Works fine for the tools I need, I just wish they'd give me 2000 Pro instead of 98 SE. Even if I didn't have admin rights. I just hate 98.

:(

I think you need a dual 2.2 with 1.5 gigs of memory and a 100 gb hd :p

My job just got me a Compaq Evo 500 SFF. It has a p4 1.8mhz inside and a 20 gig HD and 256 megs of ram. Its OK I guess but the nvidia Vanta/LT has to go. I get lousy frames in MOHAA. :)

I agree.

The bank I work at just replaced the 66MHz FSB computers with 1.8GHz P4s (not northwood), 512MB of RDRAM, 40GB HD, and a GeForce2 GTS. They're going to be replacing the 450MHz PIIs with Northwoods this summer. I'm really looking forward to those. I'm thinking something along the lines of a GeForce3 for the graphics card. LAN parties after hours. :)

Don't forget, that GeForce4 ti 4600 is CRUCIAL in your computer. According to nVidia it slices, dices, juliannes fries, changes the oil in your car, walks the dog, AND increases your productivity in MS Word and Excel by over 300%! Just think of the money it'll save the company! That kind of money saving decision could get your boss promoted out of middle management up into high level management. Heck, maybe you should suggest he upgrade every computer in the company to GF4's. It's a slight investment up front, but you could save BILLIONS!

<--- Using a P2/400 on NT 4 :(

What's your budget for a new Dell?

Which model(s) are you considering?

I've got a 1.7 xeon w/ 512mb - 24x cdrw - 12x dvd - a front face plate that opens for usb and firewire devices and a cool black and brushed aluminum case. The 17" black flat panel doesn't hurt either. Definitely get a flat panel...most definitely. I don't know how I lived with the 70 pound behemoth on my desk before.
