There have been a few threads on P90X and Insanity. Coworker offered to let me borrow either one (he has both). I opted for Insanity over P90X for cardio over muscle. I guess I'll use this thread as a tracker. I don't have a scale yet so I'll post after I get one. I gained ~30 lbs since I got married and had a couple kids...trying to go back. I figure I'm about 190 lbs now (6' tall).

Good luck.

190 @ 6' doesn't sound that bad. 160 sounds way skinny. Depends on your body type.

Thanks. I have a very skin and bones body type. I used to be a 32 waist with almost no "gut" now I'm a 34 with a gut/muffin top. During my peak in college when I used to work out every day I was 155 lbs. I could never really put on muscle even with weight training.

Sharp stick, pokes eyes. :D

You could probably do 30 min of cardio every day and it would drop like a rock.

Edit: My 10 year old can never get enough football/baseball/soccer in the back yard. You've got 2, ftw.

My older one is almost 3 and the other one just turned 1 so I can't quite yet play sports with them.

Btw anyone know anything about the scales that measure fat? Before I worked out the meter said 21.9% fat, after I ate a little breakfast and showered, it went up to 25.5%!

In my experience those scale meters are terribly inaccurate. Trust tape measurements, how clothes fit, and calipers, not those scales.

I'm in my "fourth" week of insanity. I put fourth in quotes because I'm not following it exactly. I have combined it with P90X and Tony Horton's One-on-One Volume 1, so I'm doing 3 sessions a week, instead of the 6. The other 3 sessions, I'm doing one of Tony's workouts.

My weight hasn't really changed, however, I did the fit test again last night and my numbers went up anywhere from 25% to 90%, so I'm stoked. I was told my someone at work yesterday that I look like I'm losing weight, but the scale doesn't agree yet.

Good luck. I read some of the reviews of Insanity on Amazon because I hadn't heard of it before and it looks like it's a killer.

Has it been taking a toll on your knees? My knees were hurting this morning.

Have you ever tried taking a pre workout like 1RM, Jak3d, or White flood? All 3 of those are really popular pre workout items but i only have personal experience with 1RM.

For me after about 20-30 minutes i get steady source of energy. I work out late at night after work so usually my energy levels are really dragging. If i don't start working out within 40 minutes or so my muscles start to feel restless.

When doing cardio type stuff it seems to give me a near 2nd wind feeling. It also makes it so i can raise my heart rate a little bit easier.

Looks like all these are just caffeine? I drink a cup of black coffee when I wake up.

I did insanity and then did another few weeks of the second portion of it and I lost 20 lbs and 2 waist sizes, from 32 to 30. Could run and run for miles without getting tired. That was a year ago and I started again out of shape. Crazy how much you lose by being stagnant. Day 6 for me tomorrow.

Probably like me when starting an intense workout after a period of inactivity (hopefully the last will be just that)--initially putting on muslce to help keep up with the intense exercise (long as you're getting good protein), but dropping a lot of fat. So, the weight balances to some degree at first. Over about a month and a half recently, I dropped maybe 6 lbs, but went from snuggly filling my 34 pants to needing to buy 32's. Another month and a half, and I've gone down another 10 lbs.

Started CrossFit 7 weeks ago and dropped 20lbs already...complete change in diet and activity levels contributed to this. I could do more pushups, pullups, and weight before failure when I tested @ 6wks vs. when I first started. I'm continuing with this and on days I miss CrossFit due to traveling, I have P90x and Insanity loaded on laptop.

Really loving this...much better to me than just going to gym to lift or cardio on my own. I get bored easily and the class nature of the program helps immensely with that.

I hadn't been inactive actually. I had been doing P90X and Tony Horton's One-on-One since last summer. It's age and my diet, most likely. 41 and I can tell my metabolism has crashed. Plus, I'm not doing well with my late evening eating.

Actually, believe it or not, I feel that I have learned how to use better care with my knees while doing the workouts. I have fake cartilage in my left knee, so I am supposed to forgo intense activity on it, but I can't, or won't. So far, if anything, my calves are the sorest.

Reading this has made me want to start and try one of these programs. I don't actually have anything at my house to use for equipment. What all do you need for these programs? I have.... a set of 5 LB dumb bells at my house. That's it.

I haven't actually done either program, but I do know that P90X works best if you at least have a pull-up bar. Hand weights like you have are also useful I believe.

Insanity requires nothing at all except some floor space.

P90x needs dumbbells (or bands) and a pull-up bar (or a mounted band).
