anyone have the collectors edition? Worth the money? I got the D3 collectors edition and felt totally burned by the video game and the contents.

Initial Thoughts:

Looking in the collector's edition box...why no USB key? I was hoping to get matching set of Terran, Zerg, and Protoss USB keys. I don't even use the Terran key, I just liked having the collectible. About the same as the SC2:WOL collector's edition box. You can check Youtube for a Newegg unboxing.

After installing SC2:HOTS, why in the hell does clicking on the "Story So Far" button take me to a website? WTF?!?

Actual game play will have to wait. It's been months since I played SC2, no time for multiplayer with 3 kids. I'm thinking of replaying the Wings of Liberty campaigns and work into Heart of the Swarm.

I bought the WoL CE and felt I got my money's worth even if it was $100 (or $90 for me, had a $10 amazon promo during that time).

I also bought the D3 CE for $100 and felt totally burned like you. Thankfully I was able to sell the skull/usb items for like $30-40. So in the end, that helped.

I am waiting for my HOTS CE and i paid $70 for it. I think I will be pretty pleased with the game and content.

Blizzard games are usually the only games I'll pay a premium for CEs.

You guys being surprised by the CE contents is strange. They list all the content in the box when you order. Do you just blindly order CE without even checking out what you are getting?

So somehow my preorder for the collectors edition got messed up on Amazon and after like an hour on the phone with some guy telling me "oh we can't fix this you can try and order it from somewhere else" crap I finally fixed the issue myself. Sadly, I won't get it until tomorrow, possibly the day after if I'm not home to get it.

That is why I only play single player. For WoL, I finished the whole campaign and then played my 13 year old at the time grandson who had barely played the game. Of course he can beat me in fast twitch shooters, but I thought I had found a game I could finally beat him at.

Wrong of course, he soundly trounced me.

Edit: I still havent decided if I will buy this game. If it were on Steam, I would have pre-ordered, because I really want to play it. However I had so many problems with my account in diablo 3 and the always on line crap, that I seriously doubt I will buy this game.

Well, I knew exactly what was in the SC2: Wings of Liberty collector's edition. I kinda ASSumed it was the same/similar items in the Heart of the Swarm collector's edition. Problem is, I looked at the Newegg unboxing before getting my copy delivered. I did look at the details when ordering from Newegg, but it never really hit me until I opened the box.

Argh! How do you do this to me, Blizzard! After D3 I should expect that I would be immune to your wiles, and yet 15 years of absolutely loving your games has me thinking that maybe I should've pre-ordered this when it was $30.

Though I'll probably find the strength to resist this siren on account that I'm pretty sure they'll never deliver the game which I feel I should be entitled to expect from a $140 purchase (extrapolating to the third expansion based on the price of HoTS -- 60+40+40 $).
Which would be ALL non-hero units from the StarCraft universe in addition to new units from the sequel+expansions available for use in multiplayer by the time the trilogy is complete.

Because, good grief, WoL broke sales records, the complete sequel w/ expansions is going to cost $140 and you should humor old-school SC fans by including every single old-school unit from the first one in addition to the newbies by the time this all said and done with.

You say: but the hellion combines the vulture's speed with the firebat's flamethrower. And now the Hellbat builds on that to create a new walking, flamethrowing fiend.
I say: for $140 I should expect that all of them would be available. Give me the most viable builds ever seen in an RTS, damn it! I played that first game of yours for ten years, the least you could do is include all of the familiar faces from the first game alongside the new ones.

A sort of boss battle in the second mission... that was rather interesting!

i thought the boss battle was fun.

the following story section quite pissed me off. though we will see what happens further on in the game!

i wont even post with spoiler tags. that would ruin it for *someone* :p :(

I broke down and got it. So far seems OK, if a bit hokey.

I am surprised at the performance though. I only have a hd7770 at 1080p, but the game defaulted to ultra and I was getting only about 30fps. Turning down to high nearly doubled the frame rate, so I was clearly gpu limited.

I was playing SC2 with the wife yesterday (oh yeah, gamer wife!) and the stupid thing kept alerting me that achievements were down. WTH, only have to tell me once!

Waiting for HotS in the mail still... should get it today or tomorrow.

Havent played in ages. I bought the game on release, most popular custom map was the only one played because of how bnet listed them, reinstalled again a year later, same shit slightly different map... uninstalled.

What has improved? Are the customs as varied as the ones from SC1?

EXTREMELY varied. And for custom games theres actually a nice interface for browsing and playing them.

Setting up a basic AI skirmish is a pain, but truth be told everything else is easy.

You really need to jump back in.

oooh DOES HOTS utilize more than 2 CORES?!!!!

Can someone check this for me? (running game and checking cpu utilization)

but even if it does, people seem to be getting worse performance than with WoL.

Once I finally do get around to installing it, I'll probbaly skip the multiplayer. I loved the Ta/SC massive bases and long battles and the blizz we want 15 minute matches (cause that makes for better TV) doesn't appeal to me.

the meta have changed lately, now the pros macro for 20 minutes, and finish the game in one big battle... almost no action in the middle :(
