why? just position a couple siege tanks so that they can hit within your base.

a few nydus worms that can be taken out while they're still sprouting is a CHEAP price to pay to completely knock out air so that you can focus ENTIRELY on land.

There is still air you have to defend. The nydus worms are serious hassles.... They sprout in your base. I built about 50 siege tanks and got owned still. Goliaths +siege + mass amounts of marines and medics wins the game. Kerrigan ruins everything. The longer the nydus worms live... the worse shit they spawn. Also, I used a bunch of cloaked banshees to take out the nydus worms as soon as they came up. Made it a lot easier...

Just got done playing a 1v1 game against a guy who rushed banshees with terran. He could have wiped me out probably, but he sucked so he didn't... I made a few expansions (Mostly super minerals ones) and he wouldn't attack them or know about them... he eventually made so many siege tanks and anti-air turrets that I couldn't invade his base at all really. Everytime I made voidrays he'd insta-kill them, but this time I got about 4 of them up and went into an area where he didn't have turrets yet... lasers charged up full and just started RAGING all over his base. It was epic. I thought I was a goner all game and won eventually. :D He even had 3 battlecruisers but I killed them. :awe:

I saved the replay. :p

There needs to be some kind of overall rating for a player or something. I just got destroyed by a guy in 4v4 only to check out his profile that he was in the diamond league for 1s, 2s, and 3s...

Why? You won't know even if you're in the game to begin with... Each game is way different no matter if you're playing 1v1, 2v2, 3v3 or 4v4. The tactics change a lot and you're matched up with random players in 2v2, 3v3, and 4v4.

Example of those things are people who go diamond in 1v1 but can't get past gold in 2v2 or 3v3 or 4v4. They just don't mix well with people possibly. Or maybe they play with certain people for certain types of games. (i.e. they only play with a certain set of 4 people for ranked 4v4)

what? it was easy, i beat it first try on hard. Took out air units and just built some bunkers with the turrets and tanks/marines. I spammed banshee's to take care of the nydus worms and then when I hit supply cap I just kept building bunkers in my field covered by my tanks. 100minerals for auto turrets was worth it. Also psi disruptors were key, every entry into the base was covered by them, made the tanks work easy. Also upgrading the tanks+banshees to max was helpful.

It was never that easy for me. I played it on normal and all my shit would just die instantly. Fucking instantly. 100 marines, POOF. 50 tanks, POOF. Gone. It was ridiculous. Same for the bunkers btw... I spammed that shit to hell and back and they would get taken out so fast.

Did you have/use the psi disruptors? it would have been much more difficult without them. putting them on the raised platform so they covered the killing area was key. Let my tanks shell them constantly. I also had 3-4 scvs at each entry point that were auto repairing with the quick repair upgrade. the banshees were key though for killing the worms.

I have no clue what the quick repair upgrade is. :/ I used some of the psi disruptors but they were shitty range.

I had absolutely no problem on normal. I just used a healthy number of tanks and bunkers at the entryways and kept replacing whatever got destroyed. I used scvs to keep everything repaired and kept pumping out marines, marauders, and goliaths to handle anything that popped up in my base and to aid in the doorway defense if needed. I literally never broke a sweat on this mission doing just that.

I actually never occurred to me to use psi disruptors. I think I could have set up my defenses and just sat back and watched my forces obliterate the zerg with no interaction on my part at all if I had. :p

2 thors + their super wep thing will stun kerrigan and you can just laugh at her. if you went with the flame suppression base upgrade you need less SCVs to repair stuff. Also if you took the Planetery Cannon Command center upgrade you can simply build those to block the entrance to your base instead of bunkers and put tanks behind them. its super cheese on normal/hard ad TBH its HOW you have to do it on Brutal.

Yeah, ummm, there is. Click on his face and look at his profile. I am pretty sure that big ass number is his overall rating.

EDIT: Wait, I could be wrong. BUT if you dig in their profile you can find everything. Shame you cant do that during a match. System is setup to let master players be coy and stomp other people. Of course, they dont get many points (if any) for that so its not a huge deal. I just beat a guy who was favored and it got me 36 points. I moved from 97th to 70th place.
He claims he's not any good but he had a buttload of Jeeps in just a short while, so I dont think he's too clueless.

What does it take to get knocked down a league? I went 4-1 in placement using some fairly cheap tactics against people that seemed like theyve never played the game before in their life. They put me in platinum. I simply cant deal with players on this level and I've lost 5 in a row.

I really want to start enjoying this game but the way Im constantly completely outmatched is really ruining the enjoyment here.

I just lost 7 games in a row last night in 4v4.

I don't know if it's just bad luck or if I'm doing bad, but it's very annoying. It seems like it's a crapshoot who you get in 4v4. I know for some games, it was one or two of my teammates who just sucked at the game. Even though I lost all 7 games, I was usually in the top 3 scores which to me indicates I was at least holding my own.

I should probably stop doing 4v4, but I like playing on big maps with big fights.

can you get placed in diamond league or do you need to work your way up?

The reason I ask is because I see plenty of people who went 4-1 in placement and were put in platinum. I went 5-0 and was also put in platinum.

I think Platinum is highest you can be placed in. I was just promoted to Diamond.

Sounds like we pretty much did the same thing. I used about 6 tanks per side on normal... anything more than that wasn't even necessary. I had about 3 psi disrupters per side. I also had about... 4-5 bunkers. I also used the Merc Tanks and Merc Banshees.

The biggest mistake I made in this map was not having any anti-air strewn about my base and when they overlords came in, I didn't have much that could fight against them... I had to unload some marines from my bunkers and throw them around as I made Vikings. In retrospect, I think I'd rather just built a wall of turrets and upgrade the turrets a little bit.

I think I'd also like to have more banshees. I just sent a lot of banshees and shift-clicked each Nydus Worm, but I could probably have a couple groups of maybe... 5-6 Banshees that go to their own worm and then back to the base.

Oh yeah... if you use Merc Tanks, don't stick them up near the front... or else Kerrigan will probably Force Choke them and insta-kill them... or use Storm of Doom.

That mission was incredibly easy on Normal... I never even used the crystal and then found out I needed to use it to kill 150 units for an achievement. >_<

saving the crystal for the overloard part makes it a total joke, however upgraded turrets (just the damage upgrade) also makes it pretty easy, you dont need a wall just 1 often enough to have overlapping coverage

Oh hey... I probably could've used the crystal then :p I meant a wall as in what you're describing... not literally a wall, but enough to take out those pesky flying... things.

i played it on normal 2... and i just placed 2 siege tanks at opposite ends, on the back of the raised platform. and those were enough to keep whatever nydus canals popping up down before they released anything.

Eh, my tactics werent that dirty. It was basically going straight to reapers and assaulting the enemys economy before they had a chance to get too far. Experienced players could handle it no prob, which is why Im getting raped.

Basically I'm decent with the macro, but not too hot on the micro. I know how to formulate a strategy and see it through, but the opposing players in platinum are just way over my head. Ive had protoss start building cannons inside my base, and just horrendous amounts of infantry assault me and Ive no idea how they get so many so fast. Or the really irritating probe harassing me from the start that distracts me so much that I just fall apart.

I was in gold in beta and did about 50/50, so I figure thats where I belong.

Anyone that got dropped or raised a league, how many wins/losses does it take?

I've went from bronze all the way to gold so far. I went from silver division rank 10 to gold division rank 5 in one game. o_O

Anyway, I don't play the game enough to really have any good tactics. I think my economy management for the first 5-10 minutes isn't too bad, but I just don't know any good strats or counters... that's really my downfall.

I went from Gold to Diamond in 26 games. I'm 15-11. I'd be happy to play some games with you if you want to practice. My id is StepUp.207
