have any toss players been able to consistently use a robo bay strategy in the current ladders (gold/plat/diamond) environment? it sounds like a lot of games don't get the chance to develop very far past the midgame, and robo toss takes so long to build and tech to. I really like to use colossi, but are warp gates the default toss playstyle now?

In the beta, I used a 3 Gate Robotics into expansion build vs Zerg. The opening is very defensive with Zealot/Sentry and 1 or 2 Stalkers. Unless my scout shows a triple expansion Zerg, I wait to move out until I get Colossi, expanding to my natural as I attack.

I found it to be a very safe build. You won't have the economic advantage, but you are also safe from early aggression (and all-in manuevers if you are good with your Sentries). The key to this opening is to build your Gateway and Cybernetics Core at your choke that only allows one unit through. The sentries can help repel Zergling rushes or Baneling busts.

The ultimate goal of this is to obtain the "Protoss ball" with 4+ Colossi (must have Thermal Lances) and the appropriate composition of Stalkers/Zealots depending on your opponent's army.

I'm there too and from the 20 or so games I've played there, an SCV rush would work against one in 6 players or so. I played a 2v2 last night and my teammate managed the impressive task of building a 15 zealot army in 15 minutes or so D:

15 zealots in 15 minutes is easy. 3 Gateways and only que each of them full one time. Now if he also had a solid defense of multiple proton cannons and worked out some research, that would be impressive.

Only need like 2 gateways to do 15 zealots in 15 minutes.

Voidrays ftw though. :D Zealot rush vs voidray = Void ray win. Just send the voidray to their nexus and it's gone. :D

Btw, someone did a double nuke rush on me. I was like, "Seriously? Nukes this early?"

I killed them though with my voidray spam. :awe: They kept buying valks to kill me but I just destroyed their valks instantly.

I just tried zerg for the first time ever. Basically spent the entire time trying to figure out how the hell I can build things and how to make an army. By the time I started to figure it out I had 7000 unused minerals and I just gave up...

he was being sarcastic. you can probably hit 200/200 in 15 min.

One of the interesting things about the races is they all have their unique building aspects.

Zerg...
1) Must build on creep. Creep expands from buildings and can be created by Overlords and Queens. If I remember correctly (I haven't played Zerg since the original SC and am having trouble remembering), the only building that is an exception to this rule is the Hive.
2) Drones transform into buildings.
3) You create units by transforming Larvae into eggs. Larvae spawn from the Hive (your Command Center/Nexus-like building). So unless I'm remembering incorrectly, everything is built at the Hive.

Other than that, you pretty much just build units and such like other races.

I guess I just don't like zerg. I don't think I will be playing as them anymore

AA on ATI cards with the new drivers are still buggy. I just disabled it.

Im starting to hate 4v4. You might be good but if you're teammate sucks, its hard to pick up the slack for them if the other team is good.

I haven't had any problems with AA in the beta drivers at all. It works great.

Probably the hardest race to play well/decently. I'm thinking of switching to Terran or something, I don't really like being largely reactionary. Scouting is obviously key to any race but zerg seem to live and die by it. It feels like Terran/Protoss dictate the game and I just follow along.

My friend is a pretty avid Zerg player, so we'll probably do Terran + Zerg in 2v2, which I think will work well.

I originally hated Terran in SC1 and only played Protoss, but I've gotten much more into them after playing the campaign. I think playing WoW for awhile got me into a better mindset for playing these games... which certainly helps given how badly I played the original :p.

EDIT:

I've always thought Protoss could be pretty bad if you made a mistake. The race is pretty expensive overall, that taking the wrong set of units could easily set you back if they can counter it properly. But man, I've always loved the DT rush and now that Zergs don't get free detectors... :awe:!

Ohhh now I want to play as 'toss to try the ol' DT rush again hah.

Okay, can everyone give me their

Battle.Net Name + their character code + their REGION

I'll update the OP every night. I assumed those who have already provided theirs above are in US. Let me know if I'm wrong.

I rush warpgates every game? I don't see how robo cannot be done in conjunction with warp tech?

DT Rush is good if the other player doesn't scout it. The problem is you are very weak against an early push or air units. Just be careful and hide the DT building in a far corner of the map.
