ground nydus worms. i finally beat it.
I basically walled in all my entrances w/ engineering bays, supply depots and armories, then put a layer of perdition turrets and a bunker up asap w/ siege tanks all over the place. i had 2 squadrons of banshees running around the map taking ou the nydus worms as they pop up, and a bunch of battlecruisers at the base to support the ground forces. kerrigan would come and mess all my stuff up though, but i'd always have literally 10 scvs sitting around near the entrances repairing or rebuilding stuff. also had 2 or 3 mind control towers at each entrance to mind control ultralisks.

The only thing that could ever get into my base was Kerrigan on that mission, and that's because she hax :p. But she just destroyed a bunker and maybe a siege tank or two.

What I did was use about 5-6 siege tanks per side (left and right, each having two entry points). I also had about 4-5 bunkers on each side with 6 marines in each (with the bunker cannon upgrade). I also used the psi emitters to slow the zerg down... I had about 3 per side for maximum effectiveness (and lots of overlap).

Very few things ever got to my base once it was all set up. I also used mercenaries as the siege tanks are far more powerful in that regard. Just be wary not to put them on the front lines as Kerrigan might force choke them.

I horribly suck. Tried playing against AI 2v2 on medium. Got raped twice. They always got a ton of more powerful units out quicker than me or my AI companion. Guess I just need more practice.

Don't move on to a 2v2 match until you can beat that AI in 1v1 on the same difficulty consistently. Also, study the AI in replays to learn their tactics and build orders (thankfully you can see the build orders after the match). This is especially helpful when playing against the race you normally place as.

Actually, you could do a 1v1 match against very hard AI (the race you play as), and copy their strategies and builds. It's good to start with, and you'll be able to dominate medium AI in no time.

Hey does anyone here have a guest pass that I can have so I can decide if this is the right game for me? Please send me a PM if you do. Thanks!

Which settings use the most CPU?

Scroll over them, blizzard labeled everything to show whether it uses primarily the cpu or gpu.

i also tried to unlock the secret mission after beating the campaign, but it never showed up on my mission list. i thought the latest patch would fix that. i'm going to try and load the mission from a save file and try it from there. hopefully it counts toward my total complete status

I did the same thing. I had to reload a previous save in order to get the game to trigger the secret mission. Saw the text after that mission but was too lazy to go back and redo it. Wished I had since it wouldn't trigger after completing the game...

Haven't read the whole thread, but I just finished the campaign (hard) two days ago and thought it was rather amazing. Blizzard did a great job as usual. And yes, what's this about a secret mission?

I'm now enjoying the challenge missions - those are really fun, only did the first terran and protoss ones so far, got gold on the terran, silver on protoss. I'm sure it will become an obsession to get gold on all those for the next few weeks. Also getting back into competitive b.net play...I seem to be middle-platinum so far, same as I was in beta, but I haven't played enough yet to be really sure where I stack up.

tag: Kellaris.811, US Region. I'm always up for 2v2/3v3/4v4 or custom stuff, feel free to add me.

edit: Guess I need my # tag too, I'll have to get it when I get home. Stupid.
edit2: Got it, see above.

Log onto b.net and go to the SC2 forums.

click on your character name and it will have the # for your screen name.

there is a secret mission that is only unlockable if you haven't gone to char yet or if you have a saved campaign game from before the Media Blitz mission. If you don't fall into that category you would have to play the campaign again as a new campaign or I think you can play it from the editor some how (no idea on that).

To unlock it though, during the Media Blitz mission in the far right(bottom) corner is an old school Science Facility from the original starcraft (with new art etc) and after you destroy it "secret documents" fall out and you can collect them. After collecting them just beat the mission regularly and you will get a few story things about it and it will appear as a mission on the bridge.

I have only tried the mission once so far, but damn it was a pain in the ass.

Oh, well damn I don't have a save from before Char. Do you get anything special from the mission? Any cool cinematics at least?

I actually switched to normal in the campaign. I'm more interessted in the story than trying certain missions several times. I mean I know I could beat it on hard but it's exactly sometimes a PITA and not fun. Best example is the mineral collection missions or now the one with the mercenaries.
I like was killing of his base with a huge army and then something "I have a surprise for you" and bang my army is nuked. 0 warning or time to react. that's just retarded.

And MP, well I suck. I mean I can beat noobs and somewhat mediocre players but anyone with soem advanced knowledge no chance. It shows I played like 99.99% on fastest possible in sc1. ;)
And toss still seems to be the most straight forward race and zerg the one I don't get. Zerg on fastest is cool but on low... I actually build like 5 hachteries and a nice opponent (gold league) in custom game told me that queens are now used for that. ;)

search your comp for unsaved yull pull up a folder of every single auto save the game makes (ingame only displays the most recent ones) you just find one named media blitz and try it. should load you back into the mission if you pulled the correct one. if not try again. you can then get the item and finish the mission. the only downside is this will reset your progress to where you were wen you did that mission, in m case it was the last one i had left before char so it wasn't a big deal. the secret mission is very annoying on hard and fucking stupid on brutal

the mission is more about getting info (story stuff) you otherwise wouldn't have nothing randomly cool in it

I thought it was cool on brutal and had a number of fun surprises. Had to load from an auto-save once after losing a lot of manpower at the
Thor
quite early in the mission. After that load, I just waltzed to the end in one go and even did the extra objective
(Brutalisk)
on the way.

The nuke comes in at 6:23. There is a big graphic of the incoming nuke and a notification. Not instant. IDK what difficulty the video is at but it was equally easy to dodge in brutal.

ya, it was pretty fun on brutal. however, getting all those weapon packages is a pain.

I just went on a 10 win streak with a friend (silver 2v2).

We were rank 1 during the last 8 of those 10 matches, yet we still haven't gone to gold.

Every game was against gold/platinum players too.

We screwed up our placement matches (we were still noobs at the time) so we have worked our way up from bottom of bronze.

So far I'm 2-11 in platinum league, yet they havent seen fit to demote me yet.

wtf do I have to do beyond lose consistently to get into a league where its actually fun to play? I should probably just stop trying and completely throw the game from the start.

You could just do silly matches for laughs.

Like filling your base with only nexuses

Just lost a long long 2v2 battle. My Terran friend and I were wondering if anyone could give us some pro tips. Im OOBradm, Protoss.

replay:
http://www.2shared.com/file/4KLlpc0J/lost.html

I watched a bit of the replay on 8x FFWD this morning (I was late for work). I noticed that you were a bit late expanding to your natural and you never seemed to adjust your unit composition in response to the units your enemy was sending against you. You were still mostly creating zealots and stalkers while your protoss opponent was massing void rays at first and then carriers after that. You and your partner should have devoted a healthy portion of your armies to void rays and vikings and the rest to ground troops to combat the specific units you were seeing from your opponents. That's something I've found to be key in starcraft 2 matchups. Actually pay attention to what your opponent is sending against you and/or is massing at his base and start making what you need to destroy them immediately. In that game you were sorely in need of anti-air measures, yet both of you kept pumping out ground units. If just you alone had devoted a bunch of resources to void rays you could have decimated the protoss carrier army and the few banshees your terran opponent had near the end of the game. Since your terran teammate already had enough seige tanks and ground troops to combat the terran opponent's army thor/marauder/marine army composition, he would have fared much better with the carriers being destroyed during that final push by your opponents. Alternatively your terran teammate could have gone viking-heavy to counter the carriers and you could have used immortals, archons, high templar, zealots, stalkers, or any combination of those to work on the opposing terran ground forces.

I think you could have won that match very easily if you had only recognized how one dimensional your opponents were getting. Nearly every powerful unit has an easy counter in SC2, so it's exceedingly dangerous to throw all your resources into one unit type, and it's a staggering blow to lose a large army of expensive units to a medium sized army of much cheaper units that are strong against them.
