that was a clip of nothing
Mostly true.
However, I'm actually becoming extremely intrigued and almost hyped for Rogue One. I keep reading about how much "serious" attention has been given to the film, how they have approached it with war-centric themes, somewhat removed from The Force themes that have been the focus of all the past films. That presents a good chance to produce a film that has some damn good heart and soul, something that bleeds from pained characters striving to win a conflict they believe in.
"Edwards underscored that the film is aiming for realism, and that it's a no-holds-barred war picture. "It's the reality of war. Good guys are bad. Bad guys are good. It's complicated, layered; a very rich scenario in which to set a movie."" [

That alone can end up resulting in a terrible movie, this much I understand, but with the team involved, I think there's a damn good chance this becomes a movie that, once you ignore the Star Wars story involved, becomes a fantastic war movie. That's my hope at least. I'd love a good sci-fi war movie that feels more like a war movie with bleeding hearts, damaged soldiers, and purist believers, than one that has anything to do with sci-fi and the space operate genre.
Make it a Saving Private Ryan or Black Hawk Down type of story in the Star Wars universe, and you have a movie that will become a terrific hit that finds fans irregardless of past sci-fi genre indulgences, and better yet, another epic home theater demo. :awe:
I couldn't be more glad that Lucas is now removed from the picture (for the most part). He had a basic idea that developed into a terrific story, especially (or specifically) thanks to the developed background that became part of the official canon through novels and other ventures. He had good visionary talents but terrible directorial talents, and as a writer still stuck too much to tired themes and cliche plots and dialogue. Unless his actors were basically naturals in terms of talent and style, he couldn't get anything other than wooden and stilted acting with painful character relations. But he could jump start one hell of a story, and had a strong technical and visionary flair.
This story, in the hands of good studio control (not yes-men) and competent and exemplary crew, can become material for some absolutely epic films if handled properly. I think they've got the creative talent, financing, and studio partnerships to actually make that happen.
