Star Trek thread.

I usually don't make threads, and that's because they always suck, but I felt the need to pose this question. (I don't care if my threads suck)

Are we ever going to see another Star Trek TV series?

All it takes is the right group of people to make a great TV series, and I'd think that another Star Trek series (if done well) could be a ratings monster.

The only thing that (as a ST fan) I would hope for is a series that goes beyond the next generation era time-line. It would probably take a very imaginative group to do it that way, but the possibilites for a hit are huge, IMO.
 
Yes, we'll see another. There were 3 new series pitched IIRC and the last I heard, one still had life. It may eventually make it.
 
I watched the original Star Trek series when I was a kid and loved it. We borrowed all the VHS tapes from my dad's buddy and I watched them all the time. Then I missed out on everything for years.

I just recently started in on the Next Generation episodes through Netflix IS, and I love it again. What a great series. I can't wait to start some of the others like DS9.

During my ST lapse, I did catch every episode of Stargate SG1, and I loved that as well. I realize NG came first, but I can see some similarities between the two series. Such as how they carry a story arc through several episodes, or even a season.
 
Been catching up on Voyager. Makes my stomach turn. But I got nothing left. Already been through the others, and all the movies.

I'm taking a break from Star Trek and watching Airwolf. I was expecting it to be super cheesy after not seeing it in nearly 30 years but it is actually decent.

Jan Michael Vincent was drunk and stoned off his balls in nearly every scene of Airwolf.

I was listening to a Fresh Air interview with Richard Cranston (Breaking Bad, Malcolm in the Middle, Tim Watly of Seinfeld), about a small appearance he had on one or a few Airwolf shows. His stories about being on the set with Vincent were absolutely hilarious.

Yeah, Vincent looks like he's reading his lines off of cue cards part of the time 😀 Also, the guy that played Archangel couldn't act his way out of a paper bag. That helicopter is still bad ass even today though.

BTW- You sure it was Richard Cranston and not Bryan Cranston?

Once I get practiced up on my new RC helicopter, I eventually intend on building an RC Airwolf. 😀

I was so disappointed when my dad (who was a helicopter pilot) explained to me that helicopters couldn't break the sound barrier. :'(

I think a new Star Trek series could be could but it has to not fall into the pitfalls that Voyager and Enterprise did.
1. Don't re-use TOS episode plots.
2. The Holodeck is a horrible plot device.
3. Make the characters interesting.

In Airwolf, it breaks the sound barrier by dropping the blades into a "lock mode" and then the rear fins are supposed to supply lift.

Obviously they didn't show this in the show because there was no way to film it.
 
The reporting on the issue has said that they expect to 'give the brand a break for a few years and then launch another series'.

Seems likely to me.

At some point there's a question what's really star trek about it, given the changes in the crew, the ship, the alien races and stories and much more.

About the only constants seem to be a ship named Enterprise, the federation, and some place possibly minor for possibly very different Vulcans, Klingons, and Romulans.

Even the Prime Directive is an occassional plot device broken 90% of the time it's used.
 
No new Star Treks any time soon, but I did see George Takei live last night, as well the Toronto Symphony Orchestra playing the theme song, along with an opera singer, Kristen Plumley, singing the appropriate part in the theme song too.

P.S. Before the show started, I was waiting in the lobby and I saw this little old lady (maybe 85 years old?) come hobbling in with a younger but still senior lady, maybe the daughter.

There was some guy in a Stormtrooper uniform hanging around and the younger senior said "Look, there's a Star Trek character over there." The older lady looked at her and promptly corrected her: "No, no, no... That's Star Wars." Somehow that just made my day.

Watching and enjoying ST: TNG now, and looking forward to DS9.

I watched the first season of Farscape and had a hard time with it. Something I want to go back to at some point, but it wasn't nearly as entertaining as Stargate SG1, or ST: TNG so far.
