I was so disappointed when my dad (who was a helicopter pilot) explained to me that helicopters couldn't break the sound barrier. :'(

I think a new Star Trek series could be could but it has to not fall into the pitfalls that Voyager and Enterprise did.
1. Don't re-use TOS episode plots.
2. The Holodeck is a horrible plot device.
3. Make the characters interesting.

I believe I agree with all 3 of your points.

I just finished ST:TNG a few weeks ago. Working on DS9 now.

Found farscape and have been watching that as well.

PSA: if you think DS9 sucks just try to hold on until the 3rd season, it gets better.

Also, any episode which seems Ferengi-centric (check IMDB) can be safely skipped. You arent missing out on anything except headaches.

wow, that story sounds terrible.

The characters sound awful, but the premise is interesting. Of course, when I heard about an android crewman, a Klingon officer, an empath, and an old bald captain in 1987, I was skeptical of that and it turned out well.

I like Jonathan Frakes and Marina Siritus's idea of a Star Trek sitcom: The Rikers

It had a number of things going for it though. The show was terrible the first season, but there hadn't been a new ST series in 20 years, and it was hyped endlessly (I had a cutout Enterprise D on the back of my Cheerios box before the show came out). It also was fully syndicated and wasn't owned by any one network, so it would show up on any network at odd times (I used to watch it on Sunday mornings at 11am). The first couple of seasons reused scripts from the failed Star Trek Phase II, and Roddenberry was given complete creative control, so the pencil necked network idiots couldn't start forcing in their "suggestions". While Roddenberry's scripts were horribly outdated, he had a knack for character development...not to mention that all of the cast was very talented (especially Stewart and Spiner).

The newer shows were taken over by Paramount's network execs, and overly-geeky Michael Okuda turned the show from being character driven to a weekly "see how technology can save the day!" blow-em-up phaser fest. I'm not sure that another Star Trek series could ever work because the right factors may not be possible anymore.

Watching and enjoying ST: TNG now, and looking forward to DS9.

I watched the first season of Farscape and had a hard time with it. Something I want to go back to at some point, but it wasn't nearly as entertaining as Stargate SG1, or ST: TNG so far.

Farscape season 1 was decent but not great IMO. Seasons 2 and 3 I really loved. Season 4 is just awful.

IMHO, voyager was 100X better than that DS9 crap. I just cannot stand cisco or that right hand woman of his.

Sisco overacts pretty bad sometimes but come on, Kira is my favorite star trek babe. I've tried to watch Voyager but the acting always seemed awful and the captain comes off as ripe for a mutiny due to gross incompetence. Maybe I'll give it another shot some day but the crew just seemed loaded with annoying characters.

There cannot be any more fail than this post. DS9 was by far the best Trek series and Voyager was by far the worst.

I don't know when they would set a new Trek series, what with the reboot movies and all. Just ignore the reboot and set in the 25th (or whatever) century of the original timeline?

In any case, I think a new Trek series (whenever you set it) could be great, following with the continuity-heavy modern style of TV. Something Trek that follows strong continuity like BSG would be awesome. Not saying it should be as dark as BSG, though.

I usually don't make threads, and that's because they always suck, but I felt the need to pose this question. (I don't care if my threads suck)

Are we ever going to see another Star Trek TV series?

All it takes is the right group of people to make a great TV series, and I'd think that another Star Trek series (if done well) could be a ratings monster.

The only thing that (as a ST fan) I would hope for is a series that goes beyond the next generation era time-line. It would probably take a very imaginative group to do it that way, but the possibilites for a hit are huge, IMO.

Just make another one along the movie's reboot timeline.

Been catching up on Voyager. Makes my stomach turn. But I got nothing left. Already been through the others, and all the movies.

I can't bring myself to watch it.

I'll watch Enterprise again first. They were just getting interesting and cut it when it was just getting into stride.

I hope to see another ST, but I have a hard time thinking of anything they could do that would really be new or original.
