I'm so torn on this game. I hated the beta when I first tried it, then they patched it and I enjoyed it to about an 8/10 level. I love MMO's

Could someone please PM me with some of their initial thoughts on the game?

There's a TON more to do after 60 than grind jedi gear. Space in SWG is nothing but a huge grind fest. You can ace in 6 hours if you know what you're doing and beyond that, there is NOTHING other than grinding. Nothing. Ground has SO much more content than space, it's a joke that you quit ground at 60 because there's nothing to do and use the argument that space is so much more rich in content. Have you even played SWG for more than 5 minutes?

Uhh not really. I had a few friends and co-workers playing at the time which is why I went back. They were all level 80s and working on a few others. They had just started about a month or two prior. Pretty much all they were doing was grinding for jedi gear or resources. There are no major quest lines or story stuff past level 60. Not to say there aren't quests, just no major one that will take you through a number of levels like the legacy one does.

Trust me, getting to level 60 and master pilot requires more than 5 minutes of play. Don't get me wrong, I had a grand ol' time getting to level 60, but I was already starting to feel the burn out and the grinding to come. The fact that past level 60 is all making a "house" and farming resources, and going planet to planet looking for the best resources or setting your character to "bot" sample for planets you can't set up extractors on, or just grinding out to level 80, or grinding for the best gear all made it boring for me. That's the only things left besides some PVP and trust me, I know better games with pvp. There is no major story to do, no sense of real changes or accomplishment for the player, and no real end game content as most people can solo everything just about. Past 60, the game just lacks.

However, the space fighting was fun for what it is worth and it was a blast getting to 60 as a jedi.

Sorry to derail the topic a bit with this SWG crap :) But it is a competitor to STO, which in my opinion doesn't even have the fun factor SWG has when going up to level 60.

Well, I wish this game as I do most MMO's regardless of my belief of it failing or not, The best of luck!

I really would like to play this game in a more refined form and I hope it survives long enough for me to do just that.

Well servers should have went live a few minutes ago, being at work though I can't verify.

I may have an extra preorder key if someone needs one; again remember this does nothing more than let you start playing during the headstart and about a week into the regular start-it provides nothing else and is just a placeholder till you buy a copy.

The site is down.

According to my clock, it's not supposed to go live for another 7 minutes.

startrekonline.com gives a 403 Forbidden error. The launcher gives a 404 error. Forums are still down.

edit: Servers are up, but everything is being hammered, hard. I just got an error while trying to make my char. Also, my keys and account information keeps disappearing and coming back.

... I don't think they're ready.

Think the account server is getting hammered with everyone trying to log in at the same time. Probably nothing wrong with the forums, just shut them down to ease up some of the login load.

No fair, can't keep the exploits to yourself.

Not an exploit.

He's probably just enjoying the fact that they're struggling

Nope, nothing like that. Lets just say momma never told me to look a gift horse in the mouth.

I didnt realise that ship to ship combat was just madly clicking a few buttons (i thought you would issue orders from the bridge - though I am still only in the tutorial).

Not loving it so far

And down the servers come again. This is the benefit of Cryptic's "sort-of single server" system, and the amount of instancing they put in. Doesn't take long for one point of failure to take down the entire game.

Hahahahahahaha... growing pains? More like birth pains. They've just patched in a sort of login queue. Hahahahaha... even IT doesn't work.

This queue thing they've got going is clearly busted. I've been in the queue 15 mins and I've only moved up 3 places (out of hundreads to go).

Edit:

Woot! just moved up another spot. At this rate I should be in game some time Wednesday afternoon!

Nope. Working as intended. The queue ties into a server population cap (to limit the effects of the throngs of people that were logged in causing server load lag, instancing delays, and the inevitable crashes that brought the game down 3 times today alone). Basically, their "single server" platform obviously isn't as capable as they thought it was.

BTW: The queue is working - I've also only moved up 5 spots in the last 40 minutes, while the total queue has gone from 225 to 1700+.

Out of curiosity how many US servers do they have? Have they said what the max server pop is set at?

"One."

They have one "instanced" server, period. Basically it's a server cluster, you never know what server you're on, and you can change "instances" at will. In fact you do every time you zone (if necessary).
