Like others, I have no problem with National Anthems before games, but hat the performers who go wy off track being creative with it. The Anthem is the focus, not the Performer.

The Star Spangled Banner has to be the worst national anthem in the world. The tune is awful (it's based on a drinking song ferchristsake) and the lyrics pretty much meaningless to anyone today. America the Beautiful would be a far superior anthem.

i enjoy it and have a sense of pride when it is sung before any event... sadly some people do tend to fvck it up, but I still enjoy the effort... if only they had screened better at times.

Well I'm not American but I love to hear the NZ national anthem (in both English and Maori) plus the Haka before every game. It fills me with pride and a desire to see my team win.

the Haka is the most irratating thing I have ever seen and heard...we laugh at New Zealanders everytime they do that....It's not scary, just plain funny.

The Haka isn't for you, it's for us.

It doesn't matter...it's still bloody funny, Have you ever seen the faces on the Aussie Union or League players when the Haka is being performed....they barely can keep a straight face.

Well in the UK at least we welcome the Haka, and it's almost tradition for us to see it as much as it's tradition for it to be performed.
When NZ didn't do it on the pitch in their game against Wales, there was a lot of disappointment.

Call me unpatriotic, unAmerican or whatever, but I can't stand having to hear a 2-bit singer in their 15 minutes of glory belt out the Star spangled banner before the start of every sporting event. In the Olympics yes I can see them doing it to honor the winner, but there's no point in having to it at the start of every sporting event.
Star Spangled Banner before sports events

Star Spangled Banner sung by the celebraty of the day putting in all their own variations instead of singing it in a traditional way

FOX using the biggest sports events in the world as a promotional tool for American Idol contestants :thumbsdown::thumbsdown::thumbsdown::thumbsdown::thumbsdown:

We're blessed in Chicago to have Wayne Mesmer to sing at most of the big sports events, and he does a great job every time.

I guess those of us in the 3483 Student Squadron Air Force Choir in 1990 were a bunch of two-bit performers singing the National Anthem at a Giants game and an A's game...

...but those 40,000 people in each game sure seemed to enjoy our two-bit performance.

thumbsup for tradition, you lameass.

Is it tradition to have a no-talent ass clown who can't hit a note to save his life and drag the song on for 45 minutes sing the nat'l anthem before each sporting event?

I hate how a lot of these "singers" try to make it their own by bellowing unneeded notes and extras.

Seriously, fvck that sh!t. I came to watch some sports, and we all know 9 of 10 sports that utilize the SSB didn't originate here. Call me lame, or whatever, but I just don't care to hear it.

Lol, this thing is pretty nice. Had to look it up on Google all by myself

Haka. Click on launch the Haka feature

I prefer to watch the All Blacks doing it. Here's a video: http://youtube.com/watch?v=83U_Vg1GRvA&mode=related&search=

I don't think he's referring to performances like yours, he's referring to those horrible gospel singers who intentionally add all kinds of worthless nonsense into the song.

I thought the Soviet Union's national anthem was really good, although I wouldn't want to promote communism before every game.

Meh, I'm not really going to express my personal opinion as to whether it is appropriate or not.

I do like to hear it, though, at least when someone decent is singing it. I can even put up with some changes to it... just don't murder it.

Service bands seem to be the only ones that perform it correctly nowadays.

It is just pandering by the game organizers. Their use of the Anthem lowers it to the same level as Flag embossed toilet paper.

Thanks for the support. 🙂 One of these days, I'm gonna rip the performances from VHS to digital media so I don't ever lose them.
