I tried out the Sabre the other night. I found it fun to fly and like the interior. But I found it hard to fight in. The pips are too far apart. You would think that Badgers and Panthers would have very similar velocities (at least I would think that). They're the same gun, just one is "bigger". I guess not. It was damn near impossible to effectively use the Panthers while also trying to use the Badgers.

Of course, that's customizable. But I don't see any reason to have the stock configuration with that issue present.

I put S3 Tarantulas on before I even tried the stock loadout. Even then the PIPS aren't perfectly aligned.

4xS3 on the Sabre is quite epic. Been rocking panthers since I don't like meta bandwagons, and when you catch your target they are well aware.

I can't wait to have to make hard choices in the future about what my ship's power capability can support versus what my coolers can dissipate. I think meta bandwagons will go away then.

I think in general energy weapons are going to very popular in the real game because you don't need to reload ammo. I plan on 4x Panthers with the Sabre for sure - probably my favorite energy weapons in the game right now.

I can only put one on the nose of the 350R, which makes it hard to match up pips with the S2 wing guns. It's pretty close to the APAR Mass Driver, which would be a cool energy / ballistic combo if the APAR had a bit higher rate of fire. It does big damage but the RoF is so slow other weaker weapons can out-dps it easily.

They did the same thing to the Gladius stock loadout. No mfg in their right mind would ever pair up weapons like that.

Have you guys engaged Crusader Security yet? If you go criminal and shutdown a comm array, the next time you go to one Crusader security treats you like a pirate.

They're in avengers, and their shields are hard to get down. This alone is making me consider putting energy weapons back on because it takes me 90% of my effort to get their shields down. Then and only then can I put them down quick.

Haven't tried that yet. I'll make sure to take something with some Panthers loaded up. :)

Yea, honestly since the last patch 2.2.2 they've been rather difficult and they work in a pack of 3. So while you're struggling to get one ship's shields down, the other 2 are running plays and bombarding you.

Even with a monoboated Sabre and a lot of determination.. I still end up having to quantum jump to leave the fight.

I'm actually pretty happy to hear that. Security needs to have some teeth to make being a troublemaker a risky proposition.

Are they shooting missiles? Once CIG gets those fixed so that they actually work again, it should make things even more tricky.

BTW: I still have an issue with my throttle going to 100% after coming out of QD. I've reported it to the issue council, but not enough people collaborated to get it noticed.

Every time I get out of QD, I have to press the throttle down key on my keyboard until it gets back down to zero. Then I can use my rudder pedals again. Very annoying. :(

I don't have throttle mapped to any of my peripherals right now (I only use forward strafe). Maybe I should try throwing it on the T16KM throttle slider. That way I should just be able to whip it up and down to zero it after coming out of QD instead of having to hold down the keyboard key.

That is a bug? I have this problem, too (except that in some ships - like in Aurora - it goes to something like 75; in others it goes to 100), but I thought that this is intentional. Very annoying, indeed. I'll look for that bug report.

Edit
I found one bug report for this problem with many reports.

I have my throttle mapped to my left slider (T16KM). Right slider is zoom, but I might take that off because the slider doesn't seem to map to the slider range perfectly and I have to wiggle it to get it to work right. Throttle seems to map just fine.

I use my left stick for strafe, and I prefer that over it being throttle because it works better in close combat and close quarters. I typically only use raw throttle when I'm exploring or traveling when it's more reasonable to take my hand off the left stick and mess with the slider.

And I've actually practiced flicking the throttle down and up while I have my left hand on the stick just in case. I basically release the stick by opening my hand and then just quickly swat the slider w/e direction i want it, then grab the stick again. I can do it in a split second now. I don't have precise control at that speed, but I can flick to 0 or 100 easily.

I'm actually thinking about gluing a small stick or something to the slider so it's more like a throttle. Only problem with that is that when it's pushed forward, it's pretty close to the stick especially when the stick is pulled back.

Cool. I created my report way back in 2.0 and only a few people contributed, so it basically timed out. Glad to see a bunch of people are reporting it now - maybe we'll see a fix soon.

I've had issues mapping zoom to sliding axes (axii?). I originally mapped it to the slide axis on my rudder pedals, which was great when it actually worked. Problem is a lot of the time the zoom wouldn't return to zero when I slid the pedal back to center.

That's essentially my problem. It doesn't return to zero when you pull the slider back, and I have to wiggle it to get it to finally return. Considering my throttle does map correctly to the slider without issue.. I'm wondering if it's a bug.

Was pirating last night trying to get to lvl 5, and found a player who had parked in the shadows of a comm station to go in and reset it.

I pulled right up to the entrance on one side, and basically waited for them to emerge so I could blast them. I was angled so I could shoot straight into the comm station's internals. hehe I figured someone has got to make it interesting and lively for the noobs!

After about 5 minutes of waiting and firing in to hopefully trap the guy in there.. I flew around to see if I could find them outside waiting for me to leave. Still.. nothing.

So I decide to EVA and fly down to their ship to see if they're there. As soon as I get down to it, I see the other player leaving the comm station and heading for my ship! I start shooting at him, but he manages to get in and close the hatch while I'm blasting him... SO I give up, then head for his ship and take it. And I guess before he could get my ship spun up, I mananaged to back his ship up... right into my ship and we both exploded and died.

Yea buddy

PTU 2.3 is out and StarFarer is in the hanger.

The XIAN Scout has an entirely new QD animation.

Crusader Security is now patrolling Port Olisar and will confront anybody with criminal status.

Patch notes are encouraging.

Pretty exciting PTU. I'm still out of town on business for another week so I'll have to wait this one out from the side lines this time.

I'm taking advantage of the free fly to just try out ships I've never flown (or not flown often).

I don't understand all the bitching about the Cutlass in the forums. I flew the Black last night and it was awesome. Definitely moved way up on my list of "must have" ships. I love the engine animations when in 3rd person.

I initially thought that the internal door from Cutlass is not working (I thought that it is a bug). But it turned out that the Cutlass internal door has a button for opening. So you point to that button, not to the door (like in most other ships) and press F when "USE" appears.

Same here. It took me awhile to figure that out!

Meh. I'm kind of disappointed. Having just read the patch notes.....I was dreaming of more (specifically shopping or some type of persistence).

This patch is just like 2.2: a new flyable ship, a new hangar ship, a new component and bug fixes. In fact, 2.3 appears less than 2.2 in that there is no new gameplay mechanic listed (like the reputation system debuted in 2.2).

Guess I'm guilty of getting caught up in the hype train......

I can't wait for NPCs and landing zones. I feel like that's when the universe is going to start to really become "alive," when we can transition from space to planetside and there's something other than real players running around in circles there.

By this point Nyx has to be close, and I'm pretty sure that was Nyx in the procedural planet teaser.

Yes, it was confirmed that it was Nyx.

Played a good bit of BR tonight.

Somewhere between getting the baby to sleep, a fifth of rum, and a pack of cigarettes, I finally broke top 40 on the BR boards...using my antiquated old 300x. ;)

Can't seem to win a match though. It's just hard to score enough points in a 300 with those big DPS Sabres and Shornets out there. Don't really care though...I just love playing. :)
