Honestly unless in-game insurance is massively expensive I think LTI is a bit overblown.

Just make sure your insurance is current before taking a ship out of the hangar, and you're good.

Oh I agree. That's why I'm not terribly torn up about it. But it does make that whole "Boom! Damnit! ... Respawn, go to hanger: WTF! I forgot to renew my insurance!?!" moment a whole lot easier to swallow. 🙂

But yeah, that's why I figured I'd just LTI out on the Aurora LX - so that I would ALWAYS have a ship without having to rely on any sort of mechanism, and then go from there and work my way up in-game. I have this sneaking suspicion that LTI will be offered as a for-pay addon down the line after the game launches anyway. I mean seriously, it would be THE #1 way to make actual income from the shipped title, especially if the difficulty of the game was appropriately tailored as such.

Alpha is scheduled for "Early 2014".

I'd consider buying something bigger than my Aurora LX if I didn't just buy a car this week. I'd prefer to HAVE a LTI Freelancer in my hanger, but I'll just roll with my Aurora when the game comes out and play it the hardcore way. 🙁

You can fly with me in my Freelancer if you make waffles.

At the rate things are going, I think they will hit $32-33 mill mark by the end of the 26th. They just passed $30mill. While I don't expect a whole lot from this weekend (300-400k maybe, since the superhornet was just available, and even for those that didn't have the LTI, the upgrade is only something like $10), I do expect to see in the order of $600-800k on Monday. Tuesday will be interesting depending on what they release about any new ships.

We know at least 1 new ship for a fact, but we may have at least 2, plus the idris-p boondoggle that will happen (they should just make it a lottery for being able to have a chance of purchasing one (i.e. everyone who wants one signs up, CIG pulls the names out of the hat for however many Idris-p's they are going to sell, they contact the people to let them know they are able to purchase it. Another X number of names are also pulled and marked down in the order in which they were pulled. These names are standby names for all the people who from the first list fail to make the purchase within 24 hours, and are then contacted and given a chance.) It sure beats having people spamming F5 all day long....

Not that I think it's a good idea, especially since so much could potentially go wrong with this sort of thing, but does anyone potentially want to do a "group buy" for an AT PCG Idris (assuming one of us manages to Lotto one)? I figure we could get a bunch of us that would be willing to split the cost and all pitch in for a communal AT "fleet" Idris.

Obviously there would have to be a level of trust involved for whomever considers this, since we're talking handing over real money to a person you likely don't know for a $1000 virtual ship.

Just a thought. I don't even know how viable such an idea even is within the framework of the game concepts... "sharing" a ship that is.

As much as it would be cool to have one, it is just too much for me, and coming from EVE, I am just too paranoid, no matter how much trust I have in people 😀

Oh, and it is $1250.

There are established guilds/corps/militias from other games that have started groups within Star Citizen who have been doing this for a lot of ships so that they have a large group of ships for anyone to use (not sure how the transference of the insurance works in that case, but I am sure that will get sorted out eventually).

And so I decided to melt down my Freelancer and Merc pack and pick up the Weekend Warrior pack. I'm happier with it. The Freelancer was cramped anyways and when it comes down to it, I'd rather be the hunter than the hunted. Super Hornet also gives me the ability to play with someone and have some fun with a turret gunner.

I may outfit it with stealth equipment being as stealth is king, but as a default it will be great to jump back into a fight if I get shot down.

🙁

No waffles for you. :colbert:

Picked up the super hornet upgrade for $55. I already have the digital colonel package with the hornet LTI. Hoping the upgrade doesn't mess with the LTI of the package I have.

Can't see myself putting more money though now into the game.

Yes, you will still have LTI on the Super Hornet.

So, I ended up adding a Freelancer to my Cutlass. I also added an Aurora, taking me to 3 packages/ships in total and $260 (I got an LX upgrade as well), which is either my limit or darn near close to it.

I may end up melting both new ships for the Banu, or melting the Aurora to upgrade to a Freelancer variant, or exchanging the Aurora for the Mustang, or maybe even giving the Aurora away to a friend. Or just keep all 3. No matter what, I'll have some great options to start the game.

Thanks again to Sith!

I added the Weekend Warrior package to go alone with my Rear Admiral. I really needed, ok change that to wanted, a fighter to go along with my Connie.

Dam I better have fun with this game! 😛

😀

Now to find out how much my wallet will be hating me tomorrow.... Glad I received a check the other day for money I had overpaid on a bill (health insurance had covered it). It was a nice ~$300 back which I will probably quickly blow tomorrow.
