So should I... but then I realized I have no friends to actually make a Connie worthwhile.

I've been thinking about getting one as well. Apparently if you solo it you can have AI turrets, or hire NPCs to man them. The fighter would still be useless though.

Remember how well those AI turrets worked on the Broadsword in Wing Commander 2? D:

Well I would hope they could improve AI performance since then! I think the constellation would be kind of pointless if they all have to be manned by 4 humans. Who's going to want to sit in a turret for someone else's ship? I would suspect not many people.

Are we eventually expected to buy a joystick for this game once its complete? I remember freelancer moved to mouse controls (which I HATED at first) but actually worked out alright...I doubt my TOP GUN joystick from the 90's still works lol

I imagine it will default to AI with the option of 1-3 friends jumping in with you at will.

how did you dim the lights? i'll post some pics of my hornet tonight

I didn't intentionally dim the lights. I have noticed the lights on my ship are dark from a distance but as I approach they get brighter and seem to light up.
Almost like a motion sensor...does that make sense?

I'd love to see your Hornet. That ship name reminds me of the days of WCI. Spirit and I flew many missions together fighting the Kilrathi in a Hornet.:D

they actually fired? i never noticed................

lol, the ai can certainly be beefed up, no question. chris had to dumb it way down for the trailer, otherwise the vanduul ships got shredded in like five seconds or something!

the controls will likely be different. i think if you have a very agile ship, mouse control will be fine, otherwise i think joystick will be the way to go. just my speculation, of course. we'll see in the end.

I'd be interested in seeing Xbox controller support, since I already have one attached to my PC. I'm not sure if that's any different from supporting a joystick.

That would be a welcome feature. Flight/space sims were so popular back in the day and the use of a joystick just added so much to the experience...x-wing, Tie Fighter, WC, Starlancer, man that was some great gaming :)

Wondering if there is a way to get the Vanduul Scythe or 350r again with LTI for an original backer who stopped following this for a while....

The 350R will probably come back around again, I wouldn't hold my breathe for a Scythe.

I really wish I had know about the Vanduul, I would have picked it up in a heartbeat... The 350r is a maybe, but it seems to have some real decent speed, but needs the stock weapons replaced. It might be decent if I make a good living in the game and can keep it properly loaded out, but stock, it will get eaten up pretty good I think by others. I was seriously considering the pack to get the corvette...

Man this game is raking in the money, over 18 million already. Glad they fixed the Hanger bugs. Kinda miffed no 1920x1200 support yet. Its weird looking at screen without it.

I've backed but I have no idea about the LTI thing, I also registered early for it. Can someone please explain why everyone seems to go nuts over it?

It's like EVE where you have to buy insurance for your ships. If your ship gets blown up, you have to buy a new one. If you don't have insurance on it, you pay for the new ship out of pocket. Insurance can/will be bought in-game (or presumably via the cash shop), however during the backing period backers got access to a perk called LTI, aka: LifeTime Insurance. Whatever ship you buy from an LTI package will ALWAYS have insurance on it, meaning it will get replaced for free if it ever gets destroyed in game. You will never have to pay for insurance on that ship.

Tried out the Hangar module today. While I realize this is essentially alpha code, I left unimpressed because there are massive graphics artifacts on my 7870 (stock speed). When I rotate my field of view the ship in the middle of the hangar leaves a huge graphical "smear" behind. I even updated my Catalyst drivers from 13.1 to 13.4 to see if that was a problem but it made no difference.

EDIT: After looking at the RSI forums, this seems like a known issue, though the patch notes don't make it very clear. I guess I'll wait for the next patch.

A patch was released yesterday that fixed all this nastiness, so the hangar is much better now. The only remaining problem is there's no way to turn on AA in the graphics settings, it could really use some.

So I was thinking about buying another ship before the LTI runs out in November. Do you guys have any suggestions? I was looking at the 315p Explorer but I don't know if its a good one.
