Holy crap I totally forgot about this, installing now!

Edit: Well that's a bummer, I keep getting an account time out error during loading.
You have to keep trying. The login servers are completely overwhlemed right now.

I've been assuming that "Hangar Module" means you can walk around the hangar and inside some ships but there's no actual gameplay - am I wrong?

You are correct. It's mostly to show off the ship models and interiors, the hangars, and that the basic engine and server infrastructure is up and running.

I finally got in! Even on the lowest settings it looked awesome. The animation when walking up and down the ladders into your ship looked and felt incredibly real, like you were watching a go-pro recording or something. I felt more immersed in those few seconds than I ever have in all of EVE or any other space game.

Benefits of reaching a stretch goal--they have an in-house mo-cap studio now :D

Also, this is like pre-pre-pre alpha, just a tech/engine showcase, but will also form the backbone upon which the rest of the game will rest (i.e. dogfight module will be an update, not a completely separate download, as will the full Squadron 42 release, and then finally the MP/full game).

I finally got inside my Hornet, she so purty. I'm naming her Betty.

Regular walk animations are screwy, but to be expected considering this isn't even an alpha release, however I *love* the first person enter/exit anims for the ships  :awe:

I will buy an Oculus Rift *just* for this game.

This will also be my most expensive game ever, since I already bought the $125 tier for the Hornet and the physical goodies, and the Oculus rift just for this game. So worth it if they live up to even half of the hype.

I think I'll pass on the pre-Alpha. I want my impressions to be set with gold/final release.

I fully admit to touching myself inside my ship in my hangar. I nerdgasmed all over the controls. It was glorious!!

to be fair, they did say they would offer credits for cash. the basic weapons do seem on the expensive side, though. expect the good stuff to cost much, much more. at least from my experience playing privateer, high-end power plants, shield generators and avionics cost 100,000 credits.

i guess we'll see; maybe the missions pay out more in star citizen than they did in privateer and it won't be so bad.

Currently the currency exchange is $1 = 1,000 Imps (https://robertsspaceindustries.com/pledge/central-core-bank)

So if you're a new backer you have to pledge at least $30 to get a ship and access to the Hangar module...and the $30 pledge does NOT include Alpha or Beta access...You have to go up to at least the $65 package to get Alpha/Beta access? i.e. if you'd like to play any time in the foreseeable future

Logged in this morning to see if I could get in and was able to do so with no problems. The hanger and my ship looks great and with the settings up to their max it ran very smooth too. Not bad for an "unoptimized" pre-pre-alpha build.

The only negative thing I encountered was the overwhelming desire to purchase the Freelancer, which I've been really trying to avoid.

I see they just past the $17 million mark too. Insane.

The cheapest package with Alpha/Beta access is the Digital Mercenary package at $40. So you don't need to go up to the Bounty Hunter packages, though the latter does include more goodies and a nicer ship.

Oh no, I would never speak poorly of your Aurora. I for one need people in Auroras out there; as a Hornet pilot I need to get my target practice in.:p

I believe the Aurora included with both the Digital scout and Merc is the Marque version which is a step up from the base ES.

Also I'm open to get anyone LTI package/add-on ships at Original backer pricing with your funds and gift it to your account.

This. Which reminds me I totally *need* the black stealth Pirate skin. I'm going to buzz some Aurora pilots something fierce :p

Last night I jumped in at the $65 Bounty Hunter level. From how I'm understanding how insurance and upgrades will work in the game, I'm thinking I should actually upgrade to the 315 or 325 for $10/$15 but there is just not enough information to understand all of the tradeoffs right now. I think I have some time to make that decision though, so that's nice.

I'm mad at myself that I didn't realize what insurance was earlier so I missed out on LTI. SithSolo, I may be in touch about your offer to help with getting LTI ships but I'm not sure how we'd even handle that transaction.

I'm also trying to get some definitive info on if/how one can create their own fleets. For example, let's say I get a Cutlass as well. Can I fly missions using both ships at the same time with one being piloted by an NPC? If so, I would be much more inclined to buy another ship (or two). I think a Cutlass flanked by a 325 would be a great combo.
