instances will prevent this. Also goons, lulz. Explains why you're a try hard troll 🙂 welcome back btw, we missed you <3

How will instances prevent goons from coming to your instance? I guess I dont understand how it works? In eve I drink your milkshake.

Very true. If you host your own server you can pretty much whatever the hell you want.

Yes but nothing you do in a private server carries over to the PU. So you can set up a private server and set rules so that you earn $1,000,000 UEC a minute. But none of that carries over into the PU.

As such, I fail to see the usefulness of private servers. But that's just me.

I think it'll be interesting to see how CIG handles trolls and griefers. They've already addressed the issue several times, so we know they're taking it into consideration.

For example, we know that bounties will be placed on griefers and they (by way of their griefing actions) will become hunted by both lawful and not-so-lawful parties alike (both human and AI).

Since it includes AI, I could see some d-bag greifer(s) suddenly finding themselves instanced with 20 UEC Navy Idrisis blocking the only jump point....repeatedly. Doesn't sound like fun to me.

I have 12 PC's in a LAN room (converted granny annex) and a server currently powered by 2x Xeon E5-2667 v2's which hopefully should be enough for a PU server. I will be hosting a PU which will run pretty much identically to the official server, so far got 61 people interested. It's primary purpose will be local gaming and training.

I used to love MMO's (EQ1 & 2, Lineage 1 & 2, UO etc) but modern MMO's are so infested with griefers, gold sellers and general morons that I have stopped playing pretty much all MP games. SC is probably going to be the kick start to round 3 of MP gaming for me.

I can see it being pretty useful for folks who don't want to play online, but still want to play free-roam in the universe. SQ42 will be a campaign-driven story, so it doesn't really fulfill that roll.

It also opens up the game to the modding community.

From CIG:
Players will be given full control of their game! When operating private servers, players will be able and encouraged to mod the game. It doesn’t stop there, though: we hope to institute a ‘mod approval’ process that will allow the best of the best player created ships and other additions to be integrated into the central persistent world as well.
To me, this is pretty exciting whether you're going to play private or PU. We've already seen what kind of quality content a motivated mod community can come up with from Skyrim (with some of the environments rivaling that of top-level production studios).

There's already a lot of very impressive ship modeling going on in the RSI SC Modding forum.

There were quite a few videos on this topic. Basically there is a slider that each end user can set for how much PvP vs PvE content they see. Different systems/parts of space will place a modifier against the player's slider (i.e. there will be areas that you can not avoid PvP interactions).

That all being said, each instance is limited to a certain number of players, with information from nearby instances being sent to the clients as well so that they can still see some of the action happening in instances that are close to them, but might not be getting the data as fast as the local instance (so it could be out of sync). They plan to be able to be able to seemlessly transition from your current instance to a nearby instance (since the servers are already communicating with each other and already have a copy of your information).

The number of players in an instance is not finalized, so we do not yet know the overall size of battles that you might be aware of, nor do we know exactly how many close instances one server will be able to communicate with at once. As players get killing or travel farther away from each other, once instance may transition into another. The PvP/PvE slider, along with area settings and your affiliations (organizations that you are a member of and possibly enemy organizations) will determine what instance you transition into. In a busy part of space, there may be a few dozen instances that exist, but you will only be part of one of them and might see another one or two, but you won't see all of them and won't be able to be affected by instances that you are not within.

CR has said it from day one that you will not be able to blockade a location. You will not be able to "gate camp" like in Eve for instance to hold space/control boarders (space is simply too vast, planets too large, etc.). You won't be able to act like Goonswarm and create a group of 50-400 small, cheap ships to go around and gang up on single players, small groups, as those small groups may get instanced with a couple of your ships, but not all of them, and/or their PvP/PvE slider will have them get an instance without any of your ships in it at all and they will just fly right by you without you or them even knowing that your or their fleet/group even existed.

I'll just leave this here, in case it hasn't been posted:

“I’d be a damn liar if I told you we were going to make sure it never happened ever. The fact is, there’s a segment of the audience that’s GOING to try to exploit the system and that IS going to figure out how to turn our game against us. It’s just a 100% certainty. So what I will promise is that we’re going to be a damn sight more reactive to this stuff than others have been in the past. Star Citizen is being designed so that we can update it quickly rather than rebalancing with big patches every six months. What’s more, we’re building the game WE want to play…and if someone has figured out how to mess it up, you can believe me we’re going right in and closing that loophole as fast as we can.”[1]

The exterior of that ship looks very "Captain Proton" to me.

That's kind of what I like about it. I hope CIG accepts a diverse range of stuff like this, just like we have in the real world.

Just look at the difference of manufacturers we have for automobiles. A lot of them have gone with modern retro designs and some have models coming out like something out of the future.

I think the more eclectic the universe is, the more realistic it is. Not just ships, but art, design, architecture, music, etc.

I really like this design, from the same modder. It extends / retracts the captain's seats out over the glass. Pretty unique, IMO.

Lol at the guy who thinks they abandoned the persistent universe for modules. D:

I'm not sure if some people just don't keep up with things or they're really that ignorant.

I think it's great for them to give refunds. If people don't want to be in the project let them go. As always with early access funding, I don't spend a dollar I would be upset about that I never saw again nor saw anything for it. It's the potential and the dream that I'm in it for.

^^they should set up a second universe where all the hackers go like Titan Fall did.

Who said anything about hacking? Yes they should set up a second universe for people who aren't carebears. I will guarantee anything remotely interesting in this game would happen there.

Back then the promise seemed reasonable to accomplish.

I'm glad the scope didn't stay so reasonable. We would have ended up with just another boring mile-wide, inch-deep space sim.

You could make a good profit off your account though. You really should think about selling it....unless you're secretly very excited about SC, which would explain why you're still sitting on it. 😉

I think I'm less excited about this game as time goes on. I've already played Eve Online, don't really want to get dragged into something like that again. ALL multiplayer games tend to come down to the same thing. Mathematics. Easiest effort for most payoff. That is all 'meta' is. It is the most annoying part of playing online. No matter how often they patch, unless everything is exactly equivalent, then someone will exploit it, and they tend to have all that worked out withing hours of patches. It's just reality, and it sounds like their view is unrealistic.

I am more interested in some very good single player instances. The modding portion is very interesting because the pure scale of what is possible is very enticing. I do think though that I will be dead before anything meaningful is released.

I'll definitely be looking into the offline server, so I'm glad they're making that available. I'll probably split time between the two depending on how the online community works out.

How much we talking? I think mine is a kickstarter account. I haven't messed with it since the hanger module.

Some of those space ship models posted in this thread and incredible. I hope this game turns into a design school for future space ship designers 🙂

my account is probably worth $100. Not really worth me selling. If you guys think I can get over $500 for it then I'm all ears.

I know. I spent about 6 mos. with 3DS Max and now I wish I had stuck with it. That would be a trip to design your own ship for the private server...or even better, get it accepted to the PU.

So many cool ship ideas. I'm pretty fond of the small racers / fighters.
