Pretty much. I tried it back when it came out and hated the weapon handling and that they changed it to not be open world and never bothered to try anything in the series again. These mods that rework the weapon handling sound interesting though...
To be honest, I loved the weapon handling in the game. But what I really loved about the game was the AI, where you weren't needed to push everything along. Everyone did what they wanted and reacted with each other with no help from you, which I had never seen in a game before (and still haven't other than Stalker).
The funny part is that I didn't like the atmosphere, which is what everyone seems to pick as their favorite part of the game. It was too dark and depressing for me, but I played the original through at least 3 times, but I never did figure out how to get any mods to work. I might go back and play it again, although I didn't want to install the TAGES driver on my new computer so I haven't tried it yet.
I would like to know what you didn't like about the balistics of the game? It is one of the parts of the game that I really like. It reminded me of my time in the military, and I wonder if people really understand how hard it is to control a weapon while moving when you are taking hostile fire.
