Amputation is always a last resort.

I wouldn't be worried if I were you. It honestly sounds like a silly question... or is it just me? I'm still saying that bolt cutters would do a quick, effective, and very safe job of getting rid of that thing in an emergency. Crews that break people out of cars (jaws of life) would definitely be able to get the ring off... if it was at all a priority.

Get some sleep, and don't worry about life so much.
