If you don't mind a slight (and I do mean slight) loss in performance, the Patriot TorqX is basically identical to the OCZ Vertex and is cheaper, although firmware for it isn't as well built as the OCZ firmware. I have heard reports of people getting the OCZ firmware to work on the TorqX drives though.

So you guys are suggesting I wait for a drive that is ~$450 and is out of stock til December and it might not even arrive and then my HDD might lose all it's data or die then I'm f*cked.

Also you're suggesting I buy a drive that is way expensive compared to OCZ and is not all that much faster.

Good job guys. I think I shouldn't have bothered posting in the first place.

Why did you bother putting it on the list then if you didn't want you douchebag.

for that much of a price difference the ocz's make more sense. If you have newegg access then the intel is currently the way to go. Looks to me that the OP posted his options then made up his mind after doing some research. ocz has a fine reputation will definitely be a big improvement over OP's current drives.

Having said all that, for all you yahoos who think that the ocz is the performance equal to the intel, think again. According to Anand, the intel is a better drive. Is it ALWAYS better? no. Is it USUALLY better? yes, especially in the usage patterns employed by the vast majority of us for our personal use. Anand seems to have become something of an ssd expert, so I think that I will take his opinion on this one. Based on this, I would pay SOME more money for the intel, but the price differences shown by the OP clearly tilt his decision into ocz's camp.

Just in-case anyone was wondering. I decided to get the Intel X25-M G2 80GB for $449AUD. A bit of price gouging going on because it is sold out all across Australia but it is the perfect size for my needs and a competitive price compared to the Vertex 60GB at $329AUD anyway if you factor in Performance + Doller per GB.

Got Windows 7 Ultimate x64 and a bracket with it too, should arrive straight to my door sometime next week. I should have everything covered for now.

Thanks to everyone who has replied, constructive or not.

Have a Merry Christmas.

... I bet in a blind test, no one could tell a difference between the two, unless there was a specific app someone used that really favored one drive or another...

Yeah, that's what I thought myself Wendy and GarfieldtheCat, I bet the OCZ and Intel runs similar no one can tell in a blind test as you said...

If you were blind, how would you know how much faster your computer was running?

What he meant by 'blind test' was you don't know what SSD it is. You only know that the system is using an SSD when you try to compare the two.

I just loaded 7 x64 on an A-Data s592, came with FW1575 firmware which didnt support TRIM, however an upgrade was released to their web site on 9th Dec, flashed just fine and now supports TRIM. Not sure what the prices are like in Oz, however the A-Data 60Gb was the cheapest indilinx controllers

Cheers, although it's a bit late now though as I have already sent my money to the etailer.

Did a quick search and nothing came up from any Australian retailer.

Where did you get yours?

Hmm ginbong conviniently sidestepped being called out for obnoxious behavior.

Also, good choice on the intel. I own both a G2 and Vertex and prefer the G2 in my personal tests.

My 'obnoxious behavior' for calling calling out someone who doesn't know how to read properly and at least try to get a idea of the situation and who answers with a single word which is a name of a manufacturer?..

Yeah, alright mate.

Yeah, alright mate.

Well, that one word was what you ended up going with, right?

So why all the hostility?

Yeah, alright mate.

My one word reply was a summary for someone who apparently doesn't know how to do his own research and read reviews properly posted on the main site and make a decision from that.

At least you were able to make the right decision in the end thanks to my advice.
You're welcome.

Nope, you didn't help with anything. By saying 'Intel.' that didn't really help nothing. A forum is where you're supposed to discuss things.

One word answers are left in kindergarten.

Get the Intel.
Wow the op sure gets pissy at having every single poster suggest intel, which he seems to be really against. Why ask then? since you know better than anyone else?
