Just to share i have bought an Intel 330 60GB SSD recently and use it as a cache for my Z77 chipset ASUS P8Z77 V-LX mobo.
Initially, i have a hard time deciding which route to go, in the end, decided to give the SRT a try.
Since my SSD is small, it'll be hardly enough to install much apps. And yes, money is the issue because i have bought a lot of stuff and upgrades recently.
After installing the SRT, i can see improvement in:
1. Boot Up speed.
2. Games
3. MS Office
4. Photoshop.
The boot up speed is probably not as fast as i would like it to be, but still can see significant improvement...windows desktop gadgets loads up almost instantly....and somebody up there was saying there is no improvement for Photoshop and other apps?? BS. I can immediately see improvements the 2nd time i load it!
With just a few games(2 of them Batman Arkham series...haha), MS OFFICE and Photoshop CS6, it pretty much more than the 60GB can handle.
I say this thing works and works great. It'll not be as fast as pure SSD of course (why would anyone compare that? It's like apple and orange in terms of price and the storage capacity), but it does makes a lot of sense currently. Until the day SSD is dead cheap like HDD now, then the SRT maybe won't make sense.
Even when SSD price drop significantly in say 2 years time. I still can opt to buy a 256GB SSD then at the price of 250GB HDD now and still use my old SSD to cache other hard mechanical disks. It's a win-win situation for at least 3-4 years to come .
