Squatting use a hon chan rack

Here is a picture of a similar squat rack. It seems like it is also called a angled squat rack.

With the bar in the rack it is at my upper chest and below the shoulders.. When is on my back and I'm standing up straight the bar touches or is very close to the pins above. I could duck walk the weight out but when the weight gets heavy I'm afraid I will hurt myself. The pins are fixed so I can't adjust their height. The only other solution I can think of is wear shoes that change my height.

Is the proper way to use the rack is to face the pins or face away from the pins?

You're supposed to walk it out of the pins. For heavy weights you should use a power rack instead. And you should face the pins, so you can put the weight back when you're done more easily.

The gym I go to has one of those. It doesn't allow you to go super deep, but it keeps you safe. Don't worry too much about walking it out, as long as you're loading progressively and sensibly you shouldn't have any problems.

If you're feeling really confident in your technique and the weight is very manageable, back yourself out of the rack altogether and do your set there.

It does when you're 6'6" 🙂

Anyways, face the tallest part, and take a 3 step walk back. One foot, trail foot, even out. Doesn't seem to put to much pressure on my legs @ 315.

My gym has this thing too, and it's the only piece of "real" equipment there (besides bench).

Doesn't let me go super deep (I'm 6'0), but I easily break parallel.

Curse my extra-medium body! I can break parallel, but I have to make sure the weights are aligned so they stay outside the rails and miss the racks on the sides.
