Knives >3" pocket or otherwise are certainly not illegal.

They are if you have no good reason to carry them

It shall be a defence for a person charged with an offence under this section to prove that he had good reason or lawful authority for having the article with him in a public place.
The phrase "good reason" in subsection 4 is intended to allow for "common sense" possession of knives, so that it is legal to carry a knife if there is a bona fide reason to do so. Subsection 5 gives some specific examples of bona fide reasons: a knife for use at work (e.g. a chef's knife), as part of a national costume (e.g. a sgian dubh for the Scottish national costume), or for religious reasons (e.g. a Sikh Kirpan).
The special exception which exists in the Criminal Justice Act 1988 (s139) for folding knives (pocket knives) is another "common sense" measure accepting that some small knives are carried for general utility; however, even a folding pocket knife of less than 3" (76 mm) may still be considered an offensive weapon if carried or used for that purpose. - Wikipedia

FYI: Criminals don't need a gun to kill you.

Criminals don't follow gun laws in the first place, hence the criminal designation.

Anyways, this stuff has always happened but seeing as the last 2 generations have no respect for other people and their property, I am not surprised to see this more and more in the news.

Guns may be illegal over there but fists are not.
Why not go into "Your" House and beat the living crap out of them and physically throw them out??
That's what I don't understand?
Hell, they're trespassing and do not belong there.
Forcibly remove them for Christ sakes!!

Then you've committed assault. You'll be the one arrested. Not exactly the best idea.

the funny think about us Americans saying that guns will cure your squatter problem is that us americuns don't seem to understand the issue.

--do you carry this shotgun around with you? do you guys really think that squatters come up to your door while you're at home, and kick you out?

lol.

so, really, the only thing a shotgun will do for you is allow the squatters to arm themselves and defend your house from you.

:D

No, the shotgun allows me to kick down the fucking door, go in there, tell the squatters to GTFO or I'll shoot. When one of them makes a run for me, I blow his head off.

No respect for someone who thinks they can just claim something that someone else worked hard for as their own. These kind of people are what is bringing our entire global economy to its knees. We pay for all of their bad habits while they contribute absolutely nothing to us.

Agreed. but that wouldn't work in England.

While I'm not arguing with your method for dealing with squatters (its certainly got a kind of direct charm) blaming them for the global downturn seems a bit strong.

Not entirely, but they certainly are to blame for a good deal of it. People leaching off of the system is really killing our govts' funds, especially here in the USA.

That's people like squatters, not just squatters.

This doesn't actually help.

The property owner has to prove that the squatters broke in. Just because the lock is missing or changed doesn't mean that the squatters did it.

If the squatters claim that the lock was already vandalised and broken, and that they moved in and replaced the lock - you will need to provide evidence to the contrary - otherwise under the principle of 'innocent until proved guilty', the squatters are going to stay.

How about they need to prove their story too? Squatters can claim they can shoot fireballs out of their ass, but that does make it true because they claim it. You can't make one side have to prove their story and take the other person's claim as truth.

The whole thing boils to one thing though. The police in your country are lazy and don't want to serve their citizens. However I have a solution for them that should motivate them. Charge a fee to have your property listed as being in the process of being renovated. Pay the fee each month and no squatters can come in. If they're capable of posting online where to go, they're capable enough of checking a website to see if the house they want to invade is listed. Plus the owner can post signs on the outside to inform the would be squatters. If someone does try some shenanigans, then police can get off their ass and remove them. Since the police would getting paid, they would be more motivated to come remove the problem for the owner.
