Squatters?

Fair enough, as I've said in the past given the choice between my neighbours being squatters and being armed, I pick squatters.

All of my neighbors are good people so them being armed doesn't cause me any problems. On the other hand groups of criminals seizing my neighbors property would be a major problem.

do you carry this shotgun around with you?
It is not uncommon for people here to keep a shotgun in the trunk of their car or behind the seat of their truck. They are very cheap and plentiful.

Also, who says you have to own one? There is no waiting period on shotguns (at least here). Walk home, see that squatters have taken over, walk over to Gander Mountain, purchase shotgun, return home.

Groups of criminals shooting your neighbours would be a bigger problem.

That isn't very likely to happen , we have some of the least restrictive gun laws in the country yet it still hasn't turned into the wild west.

However we do have the ability to shoot any criminals who break into our homes.

The same as squatting in a persons home is very unlikely but choosing the unlikely possibility that someone will steal my house or kill me, I pick the house.

Dunno, its one of these.

So about 3"

The law doesn't allow someone to just set up home in a building that is actually being used as a home (e.g. someone who goes off on vacation), or is about to be used as a home (e.g. a rental agreement has been signed and the tenant is due to move in on a specified date). Technically, the legal occupier (or soon to be occupier) can forcibly remove the squatters.

In practice, the police refuse to enforce this particular law without a court order, so it can be 1-2 weeks before removal can take place.
Trespassing has never been illegal in the UK.
So...if I'm traveling in the UK, instead of a hotel, all I need to do is find an unlocked building which is currently unoccupied, and then I can stay there for 1-2 weeks?

Is it illegal to tie a pointy rock to a stick in the UK? I might have to make some travel plans for this summer. 😛

I'm certainly no fan of violence, or the fact that our species has a need for weaponry and lethal "competition" for things, but...well, if it's my house, I'd expect to be able to keep anyone out if I didn't want them in here. Respect mah propertah! and all that. 😉

It's not illegal to tie a stick to a rock in the UK, but yes you could do that if the doors were unlocked and you could lock them.

I try not to get into the arguments in these threads and I'm not going to now.

I'll just say this.

Guns aren't illegal in the UK.
Pocket Knives aren't illegal in the UK.
Trespass is not legal in the UK.

Dont belive everything you read on the interweb. :hmm:

Hand guns are.
Pocket knives over three inches are.
True.

Other than that I agree.
