Squats - do you always wrap your knees?

I don't wrap or use knee sleeves. I'm 29, been competing for over 14yrs.

There are also different kinds of knee wraps. The kind that some olifters use are much more slack/ flexible and don't seem to have the tension that the PL ones use.

I always tell people to avoid using these things if they are starting out. Build a base and go from there. I see way too many beginners/ intermediates use them asap. It's pointless. Build a base and *if you* need to then use it later on do so on heavy attempts.

I'll see this a lot with folks who're just starting out and using straps on every set for deadlifts and shrugs. I personally avoid using straps, wraps, belts, etc., whenever possible. It's not objectively accurate, but I'll tell myself, "if you can't do it on your own, then you can't do it" to keep myself motivated.

Same here mate. That is the exact same attitude I've had as well.

I use straps when my grips very beat up or when I'm doing pulls heavy so I can focus on the pull and not so much the grip. I've been squatting more beltless over the past 5 weeks. Backs taken a huge beating on the FS and the heavy Sn pulls from below knees which are belted.

When I did heavy squats, I believe I wrapped at 315 (10x reps), and definitely at 405 (10x reps) on up. My max squat was around 500 back then.

Yea I knew a few people who were lifting a bit more serious weights doing this, exactly for the warm aspect.

Hmmm...I know a few guys that do this as well. My knees don't feel cold when I train.

ive started using sleeves. your knees get VERY warm. not sure if there is any tangible difference with or without them. Warmer is supposed to be better for the joints. I always squat in sweats so I am usually pretty warm regardless

Bro trains with sweats on as well, Kai Greene style. Training in sweats is not for me, I'd get too hot.

I use the knee sleeves only because I don't want to miss out on any possible benefit (i.e. I don't know if they help but they are cheap enough to wear).

I thought grape fruit was the only style kai had... 😉

I used to be the same way in terms of being too hot. now, I feel better being warmer.

I kind of heard stuff but not sure what it was about. Isn't it like the american pie scene but with a grape fruit?

It's pretty retarded and disturbing both at the same time.
Just google "kai greene grapefruit video", or "kai greene towel". The latter is pretty homo.

In his defense he does a fair job of romancing it before things get hot and heavy.

funny..

i had a certain respect for kai.. maybe Im just being naive to what bodybuilders go through.. but that sh!t shocked me when I found out. I guess you gotta do what you gotta do. I told my wife about it. She says better a fruit than some random diseased woman..... or guy.

how does something like that even get brought up or presented to him? who is into that? I know different strokes, but my gosh... this world is fubar'd

I respected Kai as well and then the grape fruit thing lol. I still respect him but it's just RANDOM and OUT OF PLACE to say the least. Him being a bit more freaky than the average doesn't make him less of a BB.

LOL
