OP, where in your shoulders are you feeling the pain/discomfort? I have an old shoulder injury that causes pain while doing overhead presses but it's fine with flat bench. Also with your back strain on squats - is it pain or more a feeling like you're pushing the limit? How long ago did you start these exercises again? You may just need to dial back the weight, cut back the frequency, and let your body recover a bit.

MJinz, quit acting like a quack about this topic. My daughter does yoga with my wife at the age of 6. Light lifting for a child, especially within their own limits of comfort is fine.

OP, have your doctor take a look at the shoulder injury before you go any further. A shoulder injury affects pretty much most of the lifting techniques you are doing so you could potentially lead to more injury if you are careless. i've been there, done that, and eventually had to stop for almost a year before my shoulder had healed enough for me to begin lifting again.

I felt more comfortable with 110 + bar for squats. Going to give it a few workouts before going back up.

I deadlifted 110+bar, too.

Instead of bench with a barbell, I tried with 50lb dumb bells and it went significantly better.

How far apart were your hands with the dumbbells compared to the barbell? What was different about your form between the DB and BB?

I'm thinking something has to be different since you lifted more weight with the DB than BB, and it's usually just the opposite.

I can't yet compare the differences. All I can think is that my stability must be off. Allowing myself to move the DB's slightly independently might have compensated for that.

I had my arms as low as they would go, with my wrists just about lined up with my nipple line.
