Sprint's HTC EVO 4G

Damm people need to stop asking about if the EVO will work on the SERO($30/$50) plan.
The last decent phone to work on sero was the pro touch 2 but that was just a glorified pro touch with a bigger screen(same component inside).
Instinct, palm webos, android, none of them work on SERO unless you get extremely lucky with a customer representative.
I myself use a pro touch with the sero($30) and I know I have to give it up if I want any of the lastest phone.

I have no problem with Sprint for the past 5 yrs.
I live in Florida and the 3g is decent here.
I use my pro touch as a modem for the laptop while driving from Orlando to Miami and it was decent.
The coverage/price ratio for Sprint is second to none.
Been wanting to get the HD2 for T-mobile but even they are more expensive and the 3g coverage is not as good.

im sure it will be...im not sure if there would be an additional cost to use 4G though :/

Well, considering that the ENRP discount is just $10 a month and it is being hinted that the 4G service will be the same rate as 3G, I'm sure the EVO will be the same price if it does make it to ENRP.

After I confirm that the HD2 only has a $200 ETF, I'm buying that tonight, waiting until the EVO comes out and jumping to it sometime in the summer 🙂

Me three since it sounds like the 4g plans will cost the same as the 3g ones.

I already posted a link in the thread that says 4G will not cost any more than the plans do now. There's also no cap on how much you can download on 4G.

Your link provided what someone heard from a Sprint sales rep. Until Sprint releases a statement indicating that there will be no price difference between a 3G and 4G contract, I certainly wouldn't take the word of a lowly sales rep as gospel.

Sprint has laid down the gauntlet. WTG Sprint!!!!!! Glad I'm a Premier subscriber - love me some annual upgrade! 😛

i used my upgrade on my palm pre in december. i called and complained and they moved my premier subscriber upgrade up to nov 1 as opposed to dec 19. here's to a new phone in november! 🙂

Not bad. Plus, when you're up for your upgrade, most of the kinks with the Evo should be worked out by then; assuming that's what you end up with.

I think it requires you to have an account for a long time with SPrint.

That plus your monthly spend with them can bump you up quicker. I've been with Spring for about 6 years now. I get all kinds of benefits. In fact I can't ever see leaving Sprint because of it.

same.

it makes me laugh when people say sprint sucks. granted, they used to, but they're soooo much better than at&t was. i used to have at&t before sprint (about 6 years ago) and they were awful. i always had billing problems where they'd bill me for stuff that wasn't even on my plan, then they wouldn't try to correct it when i called them. their customer service was full of assholes. it was horrible.

anyways, sprint's treated me right from the get go. there were a couple issues here and there and everytime i called complaining about it, they were quick to fix it.

I'm not too keen on HTC phones... Last HTC I had was the touch Diamond, and that literally scared me away from HTC! But then the Nexus One Does look mighty tasty, and now this one....

Now I just gotta find someway to woo me away from WebOS. Honestly, best mobile OS i've used... Sure they can have better hardware, but the OS is insanely intuitive... just slow 🙂

here's to hoping WebOS on the EVO!

I like WebOS but ever since 1.4 I have not be a fan of the Pre. In fact, I would throw it in the lake today if the EVO released this morning.

Just curious what your problems have been with 1.4? I haven't had any issues.

It just feels... slower. For example, any time I click a menu option now it pulls up the window but there is lag where just the icon is shown in the window. I just got hit with the damn stuck in headphone mode problem yesterday as well which is just piling on at this point.

it's MUCH slower...

and when i try to hang up, it won't hang up. the orange/red phone lights up, but it won't hang up. i have to hit the nub desktop button and swipe the phone off in order to hang up. it's so annoying.

T-Mobile is going to have 4G before AT&T(Although they aren't calling it 4G they are calling it HSPA+, the speeds meet or exceed 4G specifications). This same technology will improve speeds on most current 3G T-Mobile compatible devices as well.

HSPA is 3G technology. TMo wants to call it 4G because it'll probably be in line with 4G speeds on VZW and Sprint. The fact is W-CDMA has a long way to go and you can go to 7.2mbps, 14.4mbps and even 21mbps, and beyond before AT&T really has to switch.

Like I said before Sprint and Verizon have no choice because EVDO-A is the end of the road. It's worse than AT&T's 3.6mbps network in terms of speed. That's why as AT&T deploys 7.2mbps, Sprint/Verizon HAS to either go to EVDO-B (which Verizon publicly said it would not) or move to 4G. That's why they have to move NOW.

T-Mo and AT&T have it easy, and while 4G is nice, deployment isnt imminent or isnt necessary YET. The rest of the world feels this too. This whole last year has been a move from 3.6mbps to 7.2mbps and beyond for many Asian and European countries. Many of them will probably even move to 14.4mbps too or 21mbps. The fact is 3G isn't dead yet, and this is shown by the # of phones still being released.

There will be 4G devices released and it seems like they're mostly to appease Verizon and Sprint, but don't expect wide releases of phones till 2011. It's just like AT&T had a 3G network from the get go. No one really cared about phones like Nokia's N-series which had 3G all along. No one cared about 3G period till the iPhone said here's a 3G phone. OOoooooh went the crowd. 3G!!!! Then all the data hogs jumped on board, and all the rave about tethering started. That's when we truly needed 3G. And right now we don't need 4G just yet even if VZW will deploy it first.

People laugh at AT&T for not deploying 4G fast enough, but the fact is the rest of the world is committed to using 3G till the last drop. And last I checked the US doesn't exactly dictate the phone market either as most phones are released for Europe/Asia with US ports. The exceptions have been the iPhone and the Droid, but it's not like they were releases solely for the US only as they soon circulated worldwide. So till 4G becomes solid, I doubt device manufacturers are going to jump on board and start building flagship phones based on it.

^ When phones have their rendering speeds capped by the network rather than their shitty ass processors, then we know we actually need something more than 3G.

For now, no need.

I thought I was the only one having this particular problem. The list of known 1.4 issues on PreCentral is pretty ridiculous. The last thing Palm should be doing at this point is releasing buggy updates that will turn people off from using their phones.

Well isn't that pretty much where we're at? The WP7S article on AT mentioned a 1.5ghz dual-core Snapdragon CPU that could be in products by the end of this year.

Yeah, the high end phones are definitely bandwidth limited, not CPU limited. My N1 loads pages just about instantly when I am using wifi.

That's not really surprising. I mean, most of those smartphones out there are running what, 500-600mhz processors?
