there's nothing in there that says HSPA+ can be enabled on HSPA phones. what is improving current HSPA devices is that the backhaul now has enough bandwidth.

and HSPA+ is not 4G.

No, but its still pretty damn fast...a lot faster than EV-DO, and a lot easier to deploy to a wide range of areas & devices than WiMax or LTE.

It looks like June 4th - 6th is going to be the release date. It also looks like Best Buy is going to be taking preorders in May.

A June release is a mistake, IMO. That's just too close to the next iPhone release, and I would be forced to wait to see what Apple had up it's sleeves. I'm pretty sure I won't be the only one with this mindset.

Actually, I think its best to get it out first.

Apple releases generate HUGE amounts of hype. The EVO 4G has a lot of hype now....hype that would be totally wiped out by a new iPhone announcement. They need to get this thing on the shelves and in peoples hands before Apple makes their announcement.

That's my point. I bought my 3GS June 19th or 20th last year. The Apple hype for the new iPhone should start sometime around April or May, and if the specs for it come anywhere near the EVO, I will probably be getting my third iPhone.

You should hope for more OS functionality rather then a faster phone.

Oh, I assumed you meant later than June would be ideal, since they said all along a summer release. If you meant earlier, I do agree then - the earlier the better. Letting the hype wear off is what killed the Palm Pre.

Glad to see we are on the same page.😎

True, but since the 3GS has sold well over 10 million units in the US, what's basic for you, clearly isn't basic for all.

Cus people are willing to give up some things to get the smoothest phone experience out there. It's not like the people WANT to pay the high priced plans that AT&T has. They want the iPhone and are willing to give up things for it.

In regards to iPhone competition:

"John Gruber's just weighed in with some more tidbits, in his characteristically polite way. Gruber says the next model will have an A4-class SoC, a 960 x 640 display, a front-facing camera, and that iPhone OS 4.0 will enable third-party multitasking. A pretty safe set of predictions, in all, but Gruber's done pretty well in the past, so we'll just have to wait and see."

I wouldn't count on Jobs to ever admit that a larger phone with a 4.3 inch screen would be the way to go so I expect the next iPhone to be virtually identical to the current one as far as size (physical and screen) are concerned. Here's what I expect the next iPhone to improve on: faster uP, more memory (RAM and flash) -- that's about it. Remember, Jobs is infallible and the phone he designed will never need to be changed because it was and is PERFECT!

My iPhone 3G contract is up in July so I should know for sure what the next iPhone is going to be like before I decide which way to go. But, at this point I'm leaning towards one of the new HTC phones with 4.3 inch screen.
