Supposedly the pricing is going to be $449 minus the $150 new number/2 year upgrade minus $100 mail in rebate = $199.
There is also supposedly not going to be an extra charge for using 4g as long as you are on an everything data plan. This phone will not be activated on SERO.
It has evdo and wimax radio so it will work even if 4g isn't available.
4G is on it's way to LA this year. Cincinnati, Cleveland, Miami, Pittsburgh, Salt Lake City and St. Louis were also added to their list of 4G-enabled locales for 2010.Just check their map on their site for coverage. Sprint has better coverage than AT&T so unless you literally live in the middle of no where, you should have 3G coverage where you live. Even if you don't have 4G, this is still going to be an awesome phone. There's no 4G here in Los Angeles and I still want this phone bad.
That will be extremely tough to do. I've heard of people being able to do it, but not until spending hours upon hours of calling multiple times and speaking to tons of people until you finally get someone to do it for you.http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2039459&highlight=
Looks like I (almost) got my wish
I hope I can manage to talk a rep into letting my upgrade to one of these bad boys and stay on my sero plan. I'm also just as excited to see Wimax heading to Pittsburgh. Even if it takes a little while for 4g to trickle down (errum...up...damned north flowing rivers) the Mon and make it here to Morgantown I'm still up in Pittsburgh often enough visiting family, or coming in/out of the airport enough to enjoy it. If the Wimax service stays uncapped like they are promoting it now I'll be saying so long to Crapcast for my home internet as well. In my little dream world, the WVU campus will have google fiber and Wimax before I finish my phd. Actually, I'd settle for the just the phd and me not feeling compelled to jump out my office window.

Correct, Sprint will not be releasing any new high end phones and smartphones for SERO. The best you can get is a Blackberry like I have on SERO.
So I have a question regarding sprint's roaming for data. I looked at their coverage map and a great majority of the area around my town and my entire trip to work is Orange (sprint mobile broadband network). But in certain areas where it's dark gray/light gray, it says "Mobile broadband roaming - limited access to some services." (Music store, Location Based Services (GPS), Ready Link, and Data Link may not be available in roaming areas.)
Does this mean that I'll still be able to use the built in GPS + google maps and still use data, just not the listed sprint provided features?
It's funny how you guys keep asking about if it would work with SERO, how much would you guys really save per month? Sprint's Everything plans pretty much offer the same things with about the same price. Add a 25% employer discount, you get to save a few more bucks. Sweet deal I would say.
Will Sprint Charge Extra For Using 4G On The EVO?
I just got off the phone with a Sprint CSR, Kathy, who assured me that Sprint will NOT charge extra for using 4G on your new EVO 4G.
The phone will switch to the 4G mode automatically in areas where it is available and fall back on 3G otherwise.
This seals the deal for many of you afraid that the new device would bring unwanted new charges. You can breathe easy now.
No 5GB Monthly Limit On 4G
Furthermore, the Sprint 4G page admits that there are 5GB monthly limits on data transferred using its 3G networks. However, the 4G doesnt seem to have this limitation. In fact, 4G is promised to be truly unlimited:
Satisfy your need for speed with our superfast 4G connection in select cities. Outside of the 4G area, weve still got you covered with our nationwide 3G network. Check out 4G coverage and speeds.
This plan includes:
Unlimited 4G usage. Download mammoth files, watch streaming videos and video conferencing without the lag. More coverage locations coming soon!
Peak download speeds of over 10 Mbps and average download speeds of 3-6 Mbps
3G coverage nationwide: 5GB/mo. in total or 300 MB/mo. while off-network roaming.
Additional monthly usage over 5GB costs 5¢/MB. You may not use more than 300 MB/mo. while off-network roaming. You can check your usage online anytime. Log into www.sprint.com/mysprint and click on usage details.
Very, very compelling.
I'm wondering if the iPhone will have snapdragon.. if not I'm not sure how they'd keep up.
