Today is the end of my second week of Body-for-Life. I haven't weighed myself, but I didn't weigh myself when I started, either. My primary goal was to not be embarrassed to take my shirt off in public. I haven't attained that yet ;)

I can tell already that I have more energy, though.

What the heck? I get 600-700 calories going full intensity on a rowing machine for an hour, average resistance. What kind of rpm's/resistance are you using when you use the bike? 1200 calories in 50 minutes is godly. I think I've seen that number for people sprinting for 60 minutes.

Nice thread for motivation! Err, so how many of you are chronic yo-yo dieters? I've gone from fat to almost fit to fat to almost fit to fat to fit back to fat and now working back to fit(over the course of a few years. :p). It used to start with stuff like school crunch times(exams, projects), staying up 24 hrs, skipping exercise, screwing up the diet...then after it's all over, I just stay the course instead of getting back on the treadmill. Hopefully this will be the last time.

Hmm....

"Twelve Months of M4H" :Q

That's one calendar I won't be buying....

:p

Hey, you singlehandedly supported my line of leather assless chaps - and don't think I don't see your name on the preorder list!

How dare you belittle my Constitutional Right to have a different set of ass-less chaps for each day of the week. You bastard. :|

When I started out, my goal was to burn 100 calories per 5 minutes. Now that I have been going for about a month or so, I am able to burn 100 calories in 4 minutes, although I do get tired and that number goes down (slightly) after the 30 minute mark (around 100 calories per 5 minutes after 30 minutes).

I go at a speed of 25 while spinning at 65-71rpm's. I put the StarTrac (name of the exercise bike) resistence at 18-19 to achieve this.

My girlfriend was amazed as well since she does stairs and barely burns 200 calories per workout.

I've been trying to lose some weight since the summer. Been doing fairly well so far, but I've gotten a little slack lately. I think now's a good time to get back in gear (well, once I get back to school Sunday, anyway). Still got a long way to go for what I want to do, though. Slow, but pretty steady progress, though.

Last three months have brought changes such that I'm about as thin now as I was back in the mid 90's. I'm around 60% there to my goal and will continue on it. I've managed to slightly increase my strength as well while losing around 10lbs real fat so far. :D

Oh yeah I've done it by lifting 3 days out of every 5, consuming 1700 calories a day split between 5 meals all about 30 G in protein. Whenever the mood strikes me I will do cardio as well - just 2.5 miles in a half hour or so nothing nuts. Then once a week on a friday I'll do a workout if it hits that day but in terms of food eat basically what I want, have beer, etc. I figure my body hits maintenance calorie levels around 2500 or so. My comfort zone for calorie consumption is about 3500 calories/day, so getting to the 1700/day though fairly easy now did take a lot of getting used to.

I'd say with all those trips from the couch to the fridge I move my ass a few miles each day...

Have you tried or thought of trying the Atkin's diet? Or an alternative of it like the Keto diet (also known as CKD and TKD diets)? Keto diet information.

Anyways, personally for me i don't normally change my eating habits, but my activity. I bought a new mountainbike for this summer, and still go to the gym regularly. Will probably take up another martial arts as well... i came close to a 6-pack last summer (4-pack!), and am determine to have one this summer.

i signed up to do a mini-triathalon in august.
2km running
14 pool lengths swimming (i forget the actual length)
10km biking

and i'm going to sign up for the terry fox run.

so im trying to get in shape for that. its much more motivating to go to the gym when i have a competitive event coming up.

ive also lost 20lbs since september.
but it was weight i put on last spring so i dont feel like ive lost any weight.

Personally I'm thinking of either trying supplements or having my jaw wired, I'm 5 ft nine and my current weight of 137 is way too much. No non pregnant woman has any reasonable excuse to weigh anything more than 125 pounds and that high range is only allowable if she has huge tits. I had a bit of surgery last week and since then have really only had the energy to go to work,I just basically sleep and eat after work.Hopefully I'll feel more recovered this week and better able to exercise.

if only it was that easy,I'd trade in a freaking heartbeat:)

I'm feeling a bit discouraged because my medical stuff got in the way of my progress with getting in shape.Gains in fitness at my age are hard to get and very easy to lose so I try to watch myself like a hawk to prevent slacking up.

Started the first weekend of spring break, Feb 21st I believe. Running a fast paced jog for about 20 min and then weight training for another hour or so. Been gradually upping the running and I joined up with a couple running buds to run around the countryside/town. We've been doing 4 to 5 miles a day and are working our way up to about 70 miles a week. Gonna run a couple marathons/races over the summer that they've done in past summers. Looking good so far. Haven't lost any weight, but I'm converting fat to muscle because I can lift about 10% to 15% more than when I started (whether it be legs, arms, abs, back, etc), yet I'm still the same weight though, so things are looking alright. I'm 6'0" and 175 lbs, can run 4 - 6.5 minute miles in a row fairly well.

EDIT: Now I just gotta work on my dam eating habits! Still live with the parents, and my mom always brings home pop, makes cookies, etc. Ahhhhh!

Naw, some people have medical reasons, such as thyroid problems.

Anyways, what supplements? ECA (ephedrine, caffeine, aspirin) stuff? But the 'keto' or CKD diet is a good diet. It's very similar to the Atkin's low-carb diet, except for 2 days a week, you 'carb' out and pig out on all the carbs you want. This helps with some of the cravings, but still keeps your body in ketosis so it continues to burn fat for fuel... but also helps build up muscles lost during the week while you were low-carbing. Great diet, and is all the rage within the bodybuilding community. And no, it doesn't mean it's only for bodybuilders.
