Thanks to [/b]khemical[/b] for finding it much cheaper. It's R3 rather than R2 but still has Japanese spoken and English Subs. I copied his link (7th post in this thread)
Linkage for Spirited Away for 22.95 + $4.95 (S/H) = $27.90 no tax in US.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Spirited Away (Sen To Chihiro no Kamikakushi) by Hayao Miyazaki film biography
google news link to reviews
You can order it from Amazon Japan for ¥3760 ($30.33) + shipping Spirited Away DVD
You can click [Display in English] and setting up new account and ordering will all be in English.

shipping for international orders in English
to North America CDs, DVDs ¥600 + ¥300 per dvd. So one DVD is ¥900 ($7.26)
Shipping says 2-5 weeks...but almost 90% chance you'll get it within two weeks. We always do. (In California)

Grand Total is $30.33 + $7.26 (S/H) = $37.59 or $38 rounded (no tax BTW)

2 DVD Discs
Includes storyboards, 22 trailers, and a trailer for "Neko no Ongaeshi"
DVD Details Running Time: 155 mins.
Layers: single-sided/dual-layered
Aspect Ratio(s): 16:9 LB Vista
Regional Encoding: 2
Subtitles: English, Japanese, French
NTSC Format
Audio Track : [Japanese Dolby Digital] [ Japanese DTS 6.1ch] [French Dolby Digital]

So the only thing is for R2 (Region 2) you need a dvd player that is region free or you can rip it to SVCD like I'm gonna do using dvd2svcd.org with English Subtitles.

Or you can wait another year probably and wait to own the English DVD release in which they've added additional dialogue to make it easier for American audiences to grasp some of the concepts.

Note: I used this currency converter Sep 23 exchange rates.
I also ordered Tenku no shiro Rapyuta, 1986
One of the best (opinion of my japanese wife) is Kaze no tani no Naushika, 1984 unfortunately is not on DVD yet. Not sure when either.

edited to put better offer than amazon.

This is a very nice edition. Considering I paid around $50 from YesAsia for the same thing, this is a pretty good deal. The subtitling on this version is considerably better than the Disney dub that is in theatres at the moment. Although I could just be an anime snob too. Highly recommended.

BTW I play this on my Region Free Daewoo 5800 that I bought for $89 at Sams Club. That is still one of the best deals on an awesome non-crippled DVD player around. Firmware upgradable to no-Macrovision.

Saw the movie in the theaters over the weekend. Loved it!!!

Please be aware the the current releases (region 2 and 3) suffer from a "red tint" problem. More information found: here You can find much more information at animeondvd.com

I will probably purchase the legit region 3 dvd, since it's a lot cheaper (around $25) at www.dddhouse.com.

hmm..i see it for around $30 at a local bookstore...and
if u wait a little...of course u can get it for prolly $15. :)

but, the movie rocks. i actually like this better than PrincessMononoke...which has always been
regarded as his best work. The version i saw was in Japanese with english subtitles...best combination.

hehe...he's just a lonely ghost...wants to make friends...
and chihiro was the only one to pay him any heed so he 'stuck' to her...
he's not welcomed in that bathhouse though..since they cater to spirit lords and gods only besides,
he ain't got no dough :D ..we all know spas are expensive!

geee...

pay more and get a legit version while supporting the anime community...
OR
pay a bit less and get a bootleg version from hk while supporting pirates...

take your pick.:disgust:

getting hk dvds for super cheap i can understand, most people can't justify spending ~50+ shipping per dvd from japan for most stuff. but paying $20+ for a hk dvd? hahaha. good one. that's like going out and buying a warezed copy of photoshop for $200.:p

personally, i would encourage you guys to buy it from amazon.jp instead of the hk bootleg stores or just wait for the north american region 1 release.

@khemical you ever order from ansaki.com before? I place an order, got confirmation email but they haven't charged my cc. I emailed them a few days ago and never got a reply. Is this a scam? I might have to redo that amazon japan order after all.

I'm sure there will def be a R1 release of this movie, just question of when.
Disney did take forever w/ Monster's Inc. but it's finally out, so i'm keeping my finger's crossed for only a few months from now.

as for the movie, is there a subbed version floating around? i'd much rather catch that one, if there is one.
watched the divx version of it, and really liked it a lot, altho not as much as mononoke IMO..
can't wait to see it on teh big screen tho.

i thought dc's comments were pretty funny, but if it's an "official" R3 disc, there is a remote possibility that it's legit.
who'd put a legion lock on a bootleg copy? but then it is flowing in from HK, so you never really know.. ^^

www.hivizone.com has jt for $22 plus about $5 shipping to US. If you've bought from them before, you also get 10% off. Otherwise, I'd probably get the Region free version to make things easier...

i watched spirited away last nite and it was really good. the animation was beatiful, in term of animation, it's up there with Metropolis. SA had a great story line, and the characters are unsual. There is a pretty Fat baby, fatter than fat bastard.

I got my R3 dvd from Chinatown for $25. Yes, the sub title on R3 is better than the english dub, but I did notice that the sub on R3 and R2 are slightly different. It's just small differences like the witch calling her baby just "Baby" in R3 as opposed to by name in R2. I'm not talking about the audio, I'm talking about the english sub.

They are small differences, but it does seem to distract me a bit, longing for the R2 translation. I'm actually looking for a cheaper R2, and then I'll unload my R3 edition.

But yeah, I LOVE THIS MOVIE!
