Um, wasn't that KOTOR?
Point taken. Kotor was far superior (in my book) as far as an RPG. Too bad that the Kotor license became ME and Kotor 3 became an MMO. yet another example of how the publishers don't understand that RPGers aren't necessarily MMOers.
We'll see if they can even come close to the epicness that is ME, but I'm looking forward to it. It looks pretty awesome. If they can get close to ME with the story and some RPG fun in it I'll be a happy gamer.
I would rather never see another KOTOR game be made it if got use the xwing/tie fighter remake we all actually want.
They are sitting on a gold mine and they just won't do it... It's driving me insane. Let me borrow the IP Mr. Lucas. I will only ask for 1/3 of the profits.
yeah.
It's funny--I'm a complete homer for GW, and especially GW2 now, but the story elements of those games are absolutely trite. They are so unremarkable and useless, they might as well be Diablo! But the play is so damn good it really doesn't matter. (I don't know that much about the GW2 character stories--I've mostly avoided it in Beta. But I have gathered from my few characters and what others have played, that the story elements across each class are pretty much identical.)
On the flip side, I was also highly disappointed that KoToR became an MMO. I held off for a while, but am now playing it. The story (Sith side, at least) is indeed quite engaging and worth the entrance fee. but the gameplay is generally trite and boring after a while, I must say. it becomes yet another grind fest in end game: do missions to get better gear, to do harder missions, to get better gear, to do those harder missions a wee bit faster to get more gear, to do those same harder missions even faster, to get better gear....(of course, you're often griefed by people for not having proper gear--you know, like they never were at a moment where their gear sucked). It's, well, not shocking actually. lots of WoW homers in that game (many good people, though. Don't get me wrong).
etc.
It just seems like the focus today with all game developers is to make more online and MMO style games. Everything is being made into it. Kotor into TOR. Skyrim into whatever that is going to be made into. Even KoA:R had the look and feel of an MMO like it was potentially going to be made into one. Diablo 3 is another example of a game that traditionally stood on it's own as either a single player or a multi-player game, but now is being pushed always online and primarily multi-player.
Publishers want that all mighty recurring fee or micro-transaction. it's all about the money. But the games are being forced into the genre, not organically grown into them. And where they were is now a growing void because no one is building replacements. shame really.
