yea thats pretty rare for officer ground pounder to go to flight school after making all the way to a recon platoon.

I can see it the other way easily, i was air force and the worst commanders i ever had were former pilots. i had a LTC commander who belly landed a C-130 and lost his wings because of it so they made him a Security Police Commander to finish out his time to retire. damn that guy was a prick.

i digress from the OP but cant resist since i am on the subject.

the second worse commander or Flight leader are Academy grads. jesus they are a special kind of stupid. I had a 1Lt Flight leader who made the god awful mistake of telling us his sport at the air force academy was the cheer-leading squad..... some guys pushed him so hard on that that he threatened to article -15 the next person he heard talking about cheerleading...

SIR!! give us an A!!! give us an I, give us a R....

WHO SAID THAT!!! I SWEAR TO GOD THE NEXT PERSON I HEAR SAY THAT IS GOING TO JAIL!!!

things would calm down for a bit, then the troops would come up with another way to piss off the Lt.

When do they fly?

When they finish their contract, graduate from college, go to Quantico, enter the Naval Air Training command, earn their Wings of Gold and are then assigned to a FMF squadron.

They were enlisted as Recon, officers as pilots.

That's how.

So then its the officers that can become fighter pilots?

You obviously have no idea what you are talking about with regard to the Marine Corps.

Your right I dont really know much, but like I said I was almost one myself 12 years ago....
There you go getting cocky again.
Im asking you so I can KNOW.
And based off the last miniseries I saw about "1st Recons" they were all ground pounders, its called "Generation Kill" it was a miniseries on HBO.

They despised other Marine divisions and the airforce for bombing civilians.
They seemed to be honorable grunts.

OK, I was wrong. Sorry.

One can be an officer or enlisted a be a Recon Marine. Only officers can be pilots. Those two former recon Marines that I severed with in a squadron had been enlisted. They finished their initial enlistment obligation. They went to and graduated from college. They then re-entered the Marine Corps as officers (after completion of OCS). Then they were assigned to the Naval Air Training Command where they earned their Wings of Gold.

I hope that explains it a bit better.

Again, sorry for the attitude.

p.s., Don't believe what you see on HBO.

Ohh trust me I take most media with a grain of salt but this miniseries pretty much hit the spot, it portrayed them pretty good in how they actually are, in fact I think they had real marines help with the writing. It was criticized from both the left and right.
I suggest you watch it and then tell us what you think.
