Spiderman 4? Possibly 5?

Apparently Sony has renewed their rights to the Marvel license. Script has been written by James Vanderbilt, and supposedly it encompasses two storylines so they could film 4 and 5 back to back. AFAIK the cast and director have yet to be decided, but if the original lineup and Raimi return I think I might pass on seeing it in theaters. The third movie was a turd.

What do you guys think?

I'll see it. I'm a sucker for superhero movies (except the Fantastic Four). I really want a new X-Men.

2011 is a pretty long ways off, I hope to see a whole new cast, and especially a new director. I don't think the recent movies did Spiderman any sort of justice, and Tobey Maguire, although not a bad actor, was completely wrong for the part of Peter Parker.

You must not have seen many movies then.

It wasn't great, but damn, its not THAT bad. Go watch Bio-Dome, Freddy Got Fingered, or The Core to get some perspective.

Made a couple adjustments.

they could keep everyone except Kirsten D as far as I'm concerned.

I actually like Toby as spiderman. IMO Mary Jane could go easily. In fact, except for Aunt Mae, I think everyone could be canned, they just sucked really bad at the 3 movie.

Toby was the perfect Spiderman in the first film (IMO) He does a good job of being a nerd because, he kind of is one :p. I attribute the horribleness of Spiderman 3 to bad directing and script writing. The life story of two villans along with retarded emo spiderman made that movie suck.

Well, if the third one had likewise spanned 2 films, it probably would have been much better. Too much shit going on in one flick.

He was great as Peter Parker in the first 2. With that movie version of the character, I'm not sure that they could have cast anyone better. Too bad they trashed all of the remaining worthwhile storylines with part 3.

Seriously. Who's left? The fucking Vulture?

what's he gonna do? shake his cane at Spidey and scowl?

I liked how from part 1 to part 2, Spiderman evolved. The way he fought, the way he moved, they put more effort into it. Then part 3 came along and there was nothing new, just Peter Parker acting like a giant douche to everybody.

If part 4 or 5 are anything like 3 then I'll skip them and never watch them. 3 was horrible.

Hopefully we get a new cast, director, or something that will help this franchise.

Also they are planning a Venom movie. That will probably end up worse than Spiderman 3.

I was classic "too many enemies spoil the movie" (also known as the "Batman and Robin" law).

The first one was ok, the second one good, and the third was awful. Why they threw Sand-Man in there is just baffling. Not to mention they had to rewrite their story just to fit him in. I guess they wanted to do some cool effects with the sand, but Venom deserves his own movie (as sole villain). I thought Toby was ok, but they could do better pretty easily as well. The only two people that I wouldn't change is J. Jonah Jameson and Aunt Mae.

If I remember correctly, both Toby and the Snaggletooth seemed tired of the franchise and Raimi has talked like he has no interest in continuing it. What they need to do is hand the reins over to someone else, and tell them to make an r-rated story involving venom and carnage.

Now if only instead of being 4 & 5 they would have the brains/balls to actually redo #3 and give the dark suit / Venom story a proper telling...

I'm kind of surprised that Marvel let this happen.

Seems like it would have been a good opportunity to take it back over and "reboot" the franchise now that they have their studios going.
