Moron, you can just change it online with the online dmv, and it shows up right in their records, you dont need a new license

In the commonwealth of PA, you can go do the official state website and change your address electronically. They will then mail you the change of address form, which you put in your wallet.
Since I have another year before my license expires this is what i did, so i didnt' have to go to a local dmv and do it there. Once my license expires, i'll just to a local dmv and get a new card printed.

Well, I mean, I was guilty for speeding, but what did I do that was criminal and warranted being processed in a prison?

Where is here? In Michigan all I had to do was stop by the Sectary of State office and give them my new address. Then they print out a sticker and attach it to the back of my license.

I think he may have written you down for the wrong law.

§63. Establishing of speed zones

A. Whenever the department shall determine upon the basis of an engineering and traffic investigation that any maximum speed set forth in this Chapter is greater or less than is reasonable or safe under the conditions found to exist upon any highway of this state, or any part thereof, the department may determine and declare a reasonable and safe maximum speed limit thereat, which, when appropriate signs giving notice thereof are erected, shall be effective at all times or at such specific times as may be determined by the department.

http://www.legis.state.la.us/lss/lss.asp?doc=88491

The law he should have cited you as breaking is:

§61. Maximum speed limit

A. No person shall operate a vehicle on any highway of this state in excess of fifty-five miles per hour, unless a lower maximum speed is posted on the highway, except as follows:

(1) No person shall operate a vehicle on any interstate or controlled access highway of this state in excess of seventy miles per hour.

(2) No person shall operate a vehicle on any multi-lane divided highway of this state which has partial or no control of access in excess of sixty-five miles per hour.

VERY INTERESTING

Is this why I when I emailed my lawyer with the details he left me a voicemail literally 30 seconds later saying to call him back when I can?

SOL on the other one though:
§406. Licensee must give notice of change of address

Whenever any person after applying for or receiving license shall move permanently from the address or place of residence named in the application he shall, within ten days thereafter, notify the driver's license division, in writing, of such change and of his new address.

Yeah, but getting off the speeding ticket, and copping a plea to the change of address charge should be quite a bit healthier on the wallet than both charges.

Your lawyer also realizes, I bet, that the Supreme Court of the USA has stated that abrupt changes of the speed limit (in other words, speed traps) are not constitutional, and that you have a certain distance that you can drop your speed AFTER the lowered speed limit sign, before the cop can write you a ticket. If memory serves, that's at least 100 yards. If the cop is sitting there right after the sign, and writing tickets, he's hoping that most people's ignorance is going to get him very few challenges to the tickets. Unfortunately, a lot of small towns survive off of tickets like yours. :(

However, if you got popped a half mile down the road, then you really have no excuse. Tho you could probably talk your way down to a reasonable fine amount. Since you were popped for going that far over the speed limit, they had the right to impound your vehicle and arrest you, unfortunately. A lawyer is not just a good idea, but a GREAT idea (and hopefully won't end up costing you more than the ticket would have! ). Good luck!

I would swear there was a Supreme Court decision back in the 1980's that said that they had to allow 1 mile for every 10 MPH lowering of the speed limit but that may have been restricted to interstate highways. Couldn't hurt to talk to a lawyer and check into it.

The whole reason they process you is so they can get more money by making
you pay to get your car out of impoundment. It's all a big money making
speed trap scam. How else are they going to make the budget this year?

I went 20+ years without getting a speeding ticket - and just this past
two months i got 2 tickets for speeding.... go figure.

In Washington State at least, its required by law to have your license updated within a 30-90 period after moving.

I don't live in Washington anymore, but I do still have my license from there. Address is still that of my parents' house, even though I moved out of my parents' house long before moving out of state. If cops ever pull me over, I'll just claim that I am a dual-resident citizen.

I have my own story...

The first speeding ticket I ever received was when I was only 16-yrs old. I was coming home from a ski trip on US-2. It was dark, wet and nasty. The roads were hard to see because the shoulders were covered in sand from recent snow. Cars were coming up behind me, riding my ass, and then passing me at dangerous locations. Nowhere to pull off because the road has no shoulders, or the shoulders were soft. I was really scared.

I finally come across a straight section of road and I see some taillights ahead. I figure I'll catch up to them and just shadow them home. Uh oh, I just entered the hickville of Gold Bar, WA. Cop pulls behind me and rides my ass the whole way through town (I could not see his headlights in my rear view window, he was riding me that close). Eventually, he pulls me over, writes me up for doing 69 in a 55. He also writes me up for tailgating the car in front of me (I was ~4 car lengths away).

What is worse is when he asked me if I had a job, I told him no. He started laughing to himself on the way back to his car.

/have hated traffic cops ever since
//have friends who were assaulted and raped at a party full of off duty cops... have hated all cops ever since
///cheers everytime a cop "has an accident on duty"
