Got pulled over in a one light town yesterday in a speed trap where it goes from 75 to 45 suddenly on a 4 lane medianed highway.

I was doing 79. So I get pulled over and while the cop is still writing the ticket a two truck pulls up and starts taking my car.

Then the cop says "you're under arrest" get in the car. He wouldn't even tell me why.

So $600 later I'm free and have my car out of impound.

But they took mugshots in the prison AND put me into the afis system for a ticket that says "Speeding" as the charge.

I have a mandatory court date now of course.

I'm squeeky clean too - no record - never been arrested or gone to court. No past due tickets. I had my seatbelt on. Sober etc. My license/insurance/registration was all in order.

So I guess I need a lawyer eh?

wow...that sucks man...

i know my state has extra fees if your doing more than 25mph over the speed limit normally only take ppl to jail if it is over 100 mph or 45-50mph over

i would def get a lawyer, they cant take you to jail and not tell you why...thats bs...

jailed for 34mph over the limit?

I would have to do about 100kph over the limit to get jail time here.

I would be getting a lawyer asap, dude.

I feel part of the story is missing....

What words were actually exchanged? Did he read you your rights?

Sounds like a big speed trap they got there. They were waiting for you, and that is quite unfair.

negative

Ticket charges are "Speeding", and "Failure to change address"

I commute to college and home on the weekends, so they said my address was wrong on my license :disgust:

Wrong address on license is a crime? Even if it's just the old address?

No right till I got to the prison where they wanted me to sign a paper saying "I waive my constitutional rights" and "Would answer questions without a lawyer present" which I promptly refused.

And no, I'm very friendly to police, I "Yes sir" "No sir" everything. I acted nice and cooperated knowing it would help me once the lawyer gets involved.

Speed traps should be illegal. Just a good example though of why cops, courts, etc suck.

The best part is they can ticket you even if there's no sign saying that the speed limit has dropped, because ignorance does not mean exemption from the law!

I'm not one to make excuses. I admint I was guilty and was fully willing to accept a ticket.

But to be processed into the PARISH PRISON as a criminal was ludicrous.

wtf???
got arrested and needed to post bail for speeding?? 79 in 45 is still 34 over...in a 4 ln highway, that sucks.
maybe thats the rule...but i dont see the point since u werent charged with anything more than "speeding". isnt it usually "reckless driving" or "excessive speeding" or something

Wrong address?? WTF!? My address on my license is from 2 houses ago. I'm not going through the DMV nightmare just because I moved. F them.

Similar thing happened to me too with a speed trap... GRR (but I got luckier)

In San Antonio, on Broadwa south of 410, the speed for the area changes radically. 60 to 35, to 50, to 20 all in a matter of a few blocks. I was looking for a restuarant to meet some friends at and had never been in that area. I was scanning the side and WAS going the speed limit when it changed. Got nailed for 60 in a 35. Luckily, I didn't go to jail because I could have for anything over 20 is considered reckless endangerment and reckless driving here. The cop I guess had a change of heart and said, I'll only put down 55 for what you were going. I ended up going to court and claiming not guilty and "haggling" with the DA. Just had to pay $80 instead of $230 and my record was wiped clean.

Speed traps SUCK!
