At least I'll take the time to troublshoot a problem back to the source. The "young geniuses" on this board have one pat answer to ALL problems: Reformat & reinstall. Brilliant and "patient", eh?

 those are the n00b babies you were listening too.

How long could it take to go to system manager, right click device(s), update driver, point it to source cd driver directory, install, reboot.

alternatly, system manager, right click, remove device(s), reboot, point to driver directory.

Two seconds, but what if there is no proper driver in that "source cd driver directory"? That's when the "fun" starts.

Try a Gigabyte GA-K8NF-9. Their wondrous "nForce4-4X Utility CD" would NOT install correctly, which updated some drivers, but not others. Try sifting through that CD for the corrct device drivers after it's already screwed stuff up. Then, you're on the the "Easy Tune" fan speed utility that only half functions. Hey, I'm really impressed with how smoothly it all went.

You should learn how to "speel" yourself. Dumbass.

There is no sarcasm. In TriStar's case, it's an excuse for his/her mistake. See quote's, like in my post, clearly indicate sarcasm.

"Quote's" shouldn't have an apostrophe.

You just pwned yourself.

(yes I realize I "mispeeled" pwned with a p)

I don't honestly see what makes you think owning a Dell doesn't still mean glitches like that.
I've never ever had a program like that really work where I felt it was not lying or half fucntioning. I just don't bother monitoring anything, there is no point anyways. If it's built right it will work fine for a long time. Either way stop bitching about taking the advice from here, clearly it was YOUR choice, YOU decided to go ahead with it. If you are so bitter about your PC, sell it and buy the god damn Dell.

Agreed. Ornery's adoration of minutia is a rather well documented fact of Off Topic lore.

To address thanasi's topic (at least indirectly), the "Self Built" v "Prebuilt" decision is always dependent on a variety of factors including - but not of course limited to - the end-user's needs (which in this case were not adequately assessed) and cost (which shouldn't be confused with price). There are additional minor details as well, but often those are contained with "end user's needs" (such as flexibility/upgrade path, support, incentives, etc).

There are many situations where either choice can be preferable. To claim one choice has some sort of inherent and superior value over the other is absolutely ludicrous.

Yep spending that kind of money just to play Kiddie Games and surf the net is pure folly. Just goes to show that the old adage "A fool and his money are soon parted" applies to you. Oh well, sometimes we need to make mistakes to learn.

Fvck you assh*les. I didn't "hyjack" anything. thanasi made an observation, and I replied. sniperruff asked a question, I replied. JEDI asks another question, and I reply. Pepsi90919 pipes up with useless observations to which I replied. JoeKing does the same, plus asks questions, which also requires... A REPLY!

Oh, and then little Craig has to pipe up later... much later.

I don't honestly see what makes you think owning a Dell doesn't still mean glitches like that.

They don't have such "glitches", because you don't have to install drivers! They come from the factory, you plug them in, turn them on, and use them. No "fun" at all!

I've never ever had a program like that really work where I felt it was not lying or half fucntioning. I just don't bother monitoring anything, there is no point anyways.

The mobo manufacturer supplies their drivers on a fvcking CD with a setup utility. It runs and fails to install half the drivers it's supposed to, and will NOT complete the installation no matter what. It then falls in your lap to navigate the CD and find drivers for the various non functioning devices of the board. Not to mention non functioning utilities of the board, that moved you to buy it in the first place!

Either way stop bitching about taking the advice from here, clearly it was YOUR choice, YOU decided to go ahead with it.

I WILL continue to bitch just as much as I damn well please. I post the results of my decisions, so others won't make the same mistakes!

Don't feel bad. My stepfather spent over $3k on a P5-133 PC and $3k more on a P2-333 machine from Gateway in the 90s.

That's why I always buy one step down from the top, usually a good amount of money difference and not that far off performance wise. At least you'll have a solid rig for the next couple of years, OP.
