Speeding Ticket Question

So, I was driving back from Montreal yesterday and was going through the Adirondacks and got pulled over. I was just passing a few people in the left lane, going 87 in a 65 and got a ticket.

According to PA law it says:
Although reported to PennDOT, minor traffic offenses such as speeding, red light, stop sign, etc., will (NOT) appear on your driving record, unless you are a CDL holder. Points will not be assessed to your PA driving record when convicted of a point related offense in a DLC member state.

So, would my best course of action be to just pay the ticket and let it be? Would they go easier on me as far as the price if I drove back there and payed it off in person? Thanks

I'd just pay it off and let it be.

It's a collection of like 36 states or so that share information between each other.

If you plan on going to NY ever again, pay it off and then forget about it. No points assessed means your insurance won't go up. But if you don't pay and get pulled over in NY again you will probably be jailed.

get a good radar detector. [ a leo shooting a Laser at your car= and your radar detector goes off with a laser warning.... that means get ready to pull over soon because your caught99.9 % of the time. ]

Dont go cheap and buy a low end radar detector . I recommend a Bel STi, Or Valentine 1.

always avoid radars detectors made by Cobra because they suck badly.

anyways pay the ticket.

Paying it in person will not benefit you at all.

Make sure that you mail it in with a DC in case some clerk mishandles it.

I have a Ohio license, got two tickets at once in NYC a few weeks ago. One for blocking traffic turning left (was stuck in a line of cars in an intersection) and one for going left of center (went around the cars to get out of the way and turn onto the road I was going). Complete and utter bullcrap.

First, slow the fvck down! there is really no need to be going almost 90mph in a 65...that being said, pay it and forget it, not knowing your driving history I couldn't tell you if writing the traffic court would be worthwile or not, if this is one of only a few tickets you can write in your response and probably get the fine knocked down a bit but if you have a long history of traffic violations then just pay it and be greatful you didn't get caught in your own state...but you shouldn't get any points on your license.

You wont get points...but 90 in a 65 is pretty close to a 90 day suspension in PA.
Consider yourself lucky, because I think you should get punished more than just a monetary fine for being an ignorant idiot.

What is with you nuts from Pennsylvania? Seems like every time I see a PA plate in New York you guys are speeding. I'm not talking about just a few over. More like 65-70 in a 55. Just slow the eff down. You're not saving that much time and you're a danger to everyone else on the road when you're doing that speed and trying to maintain it in traffic by weaving around other cars. We like speeding here too, but there's speeding and then there's plain reckless.
It's funny too because it used to be the New Jersey drivers you had to watch out for. They'd cut you off while weaving in and out of traffic with no signals and drive fast. Lately they seem tame compared to PA drivers.
The other weird thing is I drive to PA all the time and the drivers in Pennsylvania are fine. It's like something about New York makes you guys crazy!

OMG... Accountability for your speeding ticket FTW.

I'd buy you a beer if i lived near you.

As long as you pay it off it shouldnt matter if you do it in person or through the mail.

I don't know so I'm asking - do insurance companies only know about a ticket if you get points assessed? Do they have access to any other databases that show the ticket? Can or do they up your rates if they find out you got a ticket, even if there are no points assessed? Anyone know?

They have access to your driving records as reported by the local DMV.
The courts notify the DMV on infractions that get recorded.

At times, traffic school can remove/reduce the infraction to where it does not show on the record.

Plead not guilty and include a letter saying you want to make a plea bargin for a reduced fine. You will get a letter back saying you have a pre trail conference scheduled with the ADA and giving the option of writing a letter instead. Send the same letter to ADA with SASE and they will return a reduced charge. Plead guilty on that.
