That's sad. All you can do is be a buddy and that includes not developing or help him develop an irrational hate of women like many in this thread have.

Keep in mind it's only money and there are plenty of fishes in the sea.

BTW I don't understand going abroad for girls... Seems full of trappings. Just getting her a green card sets up possibility for fraud and coercive relationship on the other side...Especially when there are 200 million women here. Couple Indian girls I knew from my days as a undergrad went to medical school, were citizens, and culturally more similar to Indian guys here. That's what y'all should be looking for.

I am not entirely clear how long they have been married. The green card is conditional, it expires after 2 years. If she isn't still married after 2 years she loses it unless she claims abuse. Your friend needs to get a good lawyer, there could be some serious landmines here.

wtf? this is unbelievable.. I am really curious as to what PART OF INDIA this woman is from... I will wager it's either Kerala or Punjab..

Plus, I just find it strange this woman can just 'disappear'. when Indians marry, they are marrying the entire family.. somebody knows somebody who knows how to track their fraudulent ass down.. I mean.. it is only a billion and 2 people to go through.. lol..

pre-nup or bust ...

Another reason caste purity must be maintained. thank ISwarA for Brahma-vivAha and due-diligence.. ;)

The thing is.. Indian families don't like Indian girls brought up in the US or UK.. they're essentially white girls with brown skin (bad culture/attitude and full of themselves).. they want "Indian" girl in culture, behavior, and demeanor.. of course.. when you go to a place like Mumbai, Delhi, or Bangalore, you get hoes that make tricks in the west look like nuns...of course.. these are the 'secular' Indians who think they are 'hip' and 'totally cool yaar'

India is a very poor country, what was the wife's background? There was no mention of it in the story. TECHNICALLY what she did was completely within the law and he did nothing to protect himself.

If I could have seen in person these two then I'd determine how shocked I was haha, but most of the time I'm not very shocked.

Sorry, caste purity is just retarded. Plus, for all you know, they were the same caste.

Similar thing happened to a family friend in the 90s. Joined the Army, went overseas, met a girl while on a voluntary double-deployment (first deployment was mandatory, but he opted to stay for another), she got pregnant so he proposed. Brought her to the states, got married, had the kid. He paid for her to go to school and about two weeks after obtaining a Bachelors degree, she disappeared with the kid and left divorce papers on the table. Cleaned out the bank accounts and went back home.

I agree though there is no need to go get a babe from abroad.

So I'm confused as to the whole alimony thing. If he shows that this is a total green card fraud case doesn't it mean that he can most likely win not paying alimony? Don't you have to be married a super long time for this to happen?

How can you be sure it was marriage fraud from the get-go? Maybe after a couple years she just started cheating on him and then wanted out.

forgive my ignorance, is there anything positive that is the result of this caste system?
Sure there is. Ever lived in a great community that went to hell because the cretins slowly crept into the neighborhood and schools? Ever been to a school that was once safe, provided a good education, where fights were relatively uncommon, and the student body mostly reflected the same culture (that produced achievers or at least modestly productive citizens), but later turned into a failing school where children aren't safe, your children are now peers with classmates whose family culture and values are starkly different (e.g. more dysfunctional, more social ills at home, worse parenting examples, unstable home lives), drugs and criminality became rampant, produced a high rate of drop-outs, criminals, and leeches on society?

I have no idea about alimony, but he did sign a contract with the Federal Govt (I-864) promising to support her at 125% of poverty level for the rest of her life unless she becomes a citizen or works full time for 10 years.

So ummm, will her green card now not be revoked after your mate talks to immigration, that would also sort out the alimony issue?
Man, I feel for your mate, talk about a hard out scam...4 yrs in the making....wow!

Lessons learned. Sorry for your friend OP.

Prenups FTW. On a side note, I do hope Sir Paul learned his very expensive lesson from the 1 leg bandit last time and not repeat the same mistakes this time.
