One of my friend's uncles almost got suckered into a similar situation. Fell in love with a prostitute from Bangkok. He was close to bringing her home, but thankfully he started to listen to his rational mind rather than his penis.

That really sucks for your friend OP. Amazing how low some people will go to get into this country. I hope the judge sends her ass packing.

While that may or may not be true, I'm certainly smart enough to know that marriage scams are fairly common in many shit-hole countries. Marrying an American just to gain entrance to the country and a green card, along with the opportunity for easy cash is a scam widely known...

But go ahead and blame my comment on bigotry. If that helps you sleep at night...I'm fine with that.

damn. that's a long time to keep up an act, but then that's what it takes... there's always this risk when marrying a foreigner from a developing country like india/china. I think it's fair to say for most of these women immigration/money is a big incentive. the question is if that's the only thing they want...

did he lose any $$ other than the family heirloom/jewel? does she have a legal right to half of his stuff?

also, he might want to get checked for STD's. nothing about her can be trusted at this point.
 
I have 2 things to say:

Most of the more 3rd world asian countries do this all the time. They act so happy with the other person and marry them, move here and bring their entire family (or enough money to bring them back later) and get green cards. Ive heard this story many times from different people.
 
He's not going to owe her alimony for such a short marriage. Hopefully he can get a good attorney, even though it will cost him a lot of money to get away from her. I was briefly married to a money grubbing, cheating whore, so I know how this is going to go for him.

If he hasn't, he needs to cut off all communication, secure all his money, property and belongings, and lawyer up quickly.
