Patience in order 🙂 The GPU division might be rather better funded now but both Zen3 & the consoles are genuinely absolutely massive launches.
This is where the Xilinx acquisition scares me - they only just got back on the straight and narrow financially and now they're off to the races again.

I just hope that it doesn't adversely affect their CPU and GPU R&D funding.

It's an all stock deal, AMD isn't paying any cash and Xilinx is already a profitable company so it shouldn't effect AMD's traditional business funding at all. . .

This is where business gets sticky in my mind.

I think about investing in stocks from time to time but the thought of an entire $35 billion deal going down through stocks alone is just baffling.

Offtopic : But AMD need NIC/Interconnect for server/supercomputer. All supercomputer AMD current got contract uses Cray Interconnect or Nvidia's Melanox NIC/Interconnet. AMD wants all AMD server/HPC computer just like Nvidia and Intel.

Also why raise question now when a CPU vendor buys a FPGA company but no question when a GPU vendor buys same type of company??😕

Any last minute bets or hit takes about what we're going to see shown off today?

Based on leaks and rumors since the tease at their Zen 3, event I think it's fair to expect they'll have a card that beats the 3080.

If the card they did show off is the 3070 competitor it will probably cost at least $550 or $600 since it would be comfortably ahead in performance for most titles.

I don't know what it will be, but I also think AMD will have a $1,000 ($999 technically) card as well that is positioned against the 3090. It might not beat it on average necessarily, but it will be closer to it than the 3080.

Dead horse at this point. We've speculated on every possible machination. We finally get the fact in just an hour or so. Then we can go back to debating what feature 'X' means, etc.

I think they will have a card that matches or possibly even beats the 3080, but the big question is the price. I'd love to get an AMD GPU and have my first AMD CPU/GPU combo in over a decade.

Oh yeah. Big Navi is really two Navi smaller dies (40CU) with a custom interconnect which is where all the extra die space comes from. And they keep saying "256 bit bus" because each Navi die has a 256 bit bus for a total bus width of 512 bit. Trades blows with 3090, winning in traditional rasterization loads but trailing in non-optimized RT benchmarks. $999 because that's a sexy number. 16GB of ram naturally.

There. I don't think it can get any more ridiculous/nonsensical than that.

Alright, here's my bets:

1. 6800 - Beats the 3070 handily in all resolutions.

2. 6800XT - Beats the 3080 handily below 4K. At 4K it's a real toss-up, but the two are more or less on par

3. 6900XT - Falls slightly behind the 3090 but ahead of the 3080 on average. AMD will instead suggest to reviewers etc that they can overclock it to 3090 levels of performance if they wish.

As for pricing I'd rather not bet, but if I absolutely had to, then $549/$599, $649/$699 and $899 - $999 for in the same order.

Both dies are connected to the traversal coprocessor.

But there's only ~10% diff between the 80 and the 90, so if it beats the 80"handily"..........

I forgot to mention not yet seen but epic triple slot radial blower fan and optional XT PE version with 32GB of ram and the only card at launch to be able to use the "RAGE" power profile.

The side of the blower has a 3" OLED screen showing stats, clockspeeds and optional GIFs, naturally.

oh, so before the trains stops:

6800 = 3070 perf + 5%, same price
6800XT = 3080 perf +5%, same price
6900XT = 3090 perf +5%, $100 less

Even the current gen GPUs are scarce, so AMD will sell out of any Navi 21.

All available cards sell out quickly. It's said that there's a supply shortage and it wasn't pent up demand that caused it.

JHH is wearing depends today just in case.

No silly 8k gaming.

Lisa doesn't take a gpu out of the oven....She takes it out of the freezer!

Internet goes crazy, comment sections are comical.

In the best case scenario that I can think (matching 3090 perf) regarding performance and price for AMD at 4K we will have the following:
$999-899 6900XT +2% vs 3080Ti 12GB (matching essentially 3090 in performance and 3080Ti in price)
$699 6800XT +2% vs 3080 10GB
$599 6800 +3% vs 3070ti 10GB
And $499 6700XT (60CU 192bit bus 12GB memory) +5% vs 3070🤪🤪🤪

Well then, hold muh beer.

AMD has a 3090 they've acquired somehow (they don't say which only adds to the mystery) that they'll use for live benchmarks. Navi is so good AMD tells us they've installed the 500W bios one of the AIBs recently released. They also pair this up with one of Intel's 400W CPUs just to make sure performance is maxed out completely.

Just as they start the benchmark though the combined power draw causes a brownout that spreads across the entire area as the energy grid is brought to its knees. We never do get to see the actual Navi results and have to wait another week for a new event while arguing incessantly over rumors.

The darkest timeline.
