My mother actually carries a Kimber .45.
That is my kind of woman, the kind that doesn't have to take the Marlboro out of her mouth before she tells the state trooper to kiss her ass. The kind of woman who can prove horror movies don't need to be 90 minutes long.

Wtf? NYC has one of the if not the lowest murder rate out of any large city in the USA. There aren't more than one or two large southern cities with a lower murder rate. Out of cities with more than 500,000 people NYC is #3 on the list of lowest crime rating.

I think it has more to do with the broken-windows policies than gun-control but I hate seeing this myth of a dangerous NYC perpuated. I go to NYC constantly, I have many friends who live in NYC, and I have never heard of a single person so much as being pick-pocketed. I've even had idiot friends going to Columbia drop into Harlem late at night to try to buy drugs. They looked so horribly out of place, being nerdy foreigners, the guys they ran into just laughed at them and told them to get the fuck out of there.

NYC didn't used to be. In the early 90's it was one of the worst and they had the same strict gun laws then.

Guns are not toys, but they do have a recreational use.

Same with cars. Both can be deadly if you treat them as "toys".

The comparison to cars always makes me chuckle.

Yes, cars can be used as toys, can be used to kill... but also their primary function is transportation.

Guns are toys. Deadly and serious, but also toys.

Rich area has low crime, more news at 11.

City goes through the great recession and still has a declining crime rate, news at 11.

Matt claimed NYC has an extremely high murder rate, I was simply refuting the incorrect statement.

Dumb. Washington was not fighting anyone when the 2nd Amendment was ratified.

Ummm, yeah thats kind of the point..... You see, he had not long before finished fighting the nation he once belonged to and by defeating them (with some help) gave the founders the ability to ratify it.

drugs are recreative, guns aren't

as already said.... assualt guns are the most efective weapon to kill people, bombs or knifes aren't even close to it.
face it, it's impossible to "heal" every crazy guy... countryes were guns were simply banned made a HUGE diference on the kill number

Bombs aren't even close????

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oklahoma_City_bombing

168 dead including 19 children under the age of 6...... Seemed pretty damned effective if you ask me but I guess your argument is that he would have been able to kill far more people with an AR-15 and a few high capacity magazines.

You are so incredibly naive, or just ignorant, take your pick. A firearm is as much a "toy" as a car, or a boat, in other words, no, it is not a fucking toy. It sad how some of you wave around your flag of ignorance, like it's something to be proud of.

Sadly, it's very prevalent that if someone does not value a particular freedom, he wants it curtailed for everyone.

They are exactly the same as all those neocons that supported further invasions of our privacy, trampling of the fourth, and the "Patriot" Act™ to support their irrational fear of the terrorist.

You showed me. You countered my point with aplomb.

Wait...no... you didn't. You just made counter-assertions.

People play with them. People collect them. They are a hobby for many. And so they are toys. They are not toys for everyone, but many many people solely have them as dangerous and deadly toys.

Also, I said nothing about curtailing anyone's freedom. My grandfather has hunted his whole life. Why would I take that away from him? I have plenty of friends who enjoy going to the range and shooting. I'm not out to stop them either.

No, I just want some honesty.

Your freedom-hating bogey-man is somewhere else. He ain't me.

Say that to the wife in a protection program who is hiding out from a stalker husband released from prison.

Or perhaps you would like to apply the term toy to people that buy a gun for protection while they live in city with a high murder and/or violent crime rate.

While guns are toys for some people, just like cars, homes, boats, and practically any commodity that isn't water/air/bread, it is not toys for every one.

You are a world class fool.

A woman I work with and went out with a couple times was stalked by a crazy ex. Not crazy the way the word has been watered down these days. Truly messed up in the head. She was abducted, tied up and held in the trunk of a car for a couple of days. She now owns several "toys" because this guy keeps getting released from prison. Hooray for a justice system that pampers violent criminals!

That's funny... because when I said all, I meant... wait... I did say many. Huh. It's like you guys all want someone to fight with SO BAD that you put words in my mouth just to fight with me and invent awesome hypotheticals.

AND you granted my point. So who are you fighting?

Okay. I'll give your opinion a lot of thought. I'll examine myself over it. Will gun owners take an honest look at themselves and their reasons for owning guns? I think many would find their reasons lacking. Again, not all, because some people have to keep actual wolves and coyotes at bay, but I would wager they are not the majority of gun-owners.

The reality remains that guns are toys for many many people.

I'm confused... are you saying that most gun owners are women who have relationships with unstable people and go on to experience terrible traumas?

Or is this that special situation where anecdotes are better than data?

Did you not state the following?

Exactly. Guns are toys.

I said to say that to a certain set of people and see the reaction you get with such a idiotic blanket statement.

Plain and simple they always hide behind the 1st amendment right but want to take away our 2nd amendment right:whiste:
