I have a 60" samsung smart TV. I am looking for speaker setup on budget ( < $300)
The TV is kept on a TV stand in living room. I like to watch movies on TV and play music. So looking for speakers for that purpose.I am not sure whether 3.1 or 5.1 suits me. The flooring is carpet.
Now the main thing is that, there is a toddler at home. So want to avoid floor stand speakers also avoid wiring as much as possible so that he wont touch/pull the stuffs.

please suggest a good model for my case

$300 wont get much
you need
1. avr
2. left, right, center
3. sub

even the energy take home classic set runs almost 300 for just speakers

can you up the budget, $1000 would be more realistic for an etry level 3.1

$1000 for speakers is not feasible at this moment.
Could you please suggest alternative solutions.

for that price, find either a soundbar, or a home theater in the box.

as an example i would consider this a minimal budget
avr - 250
sub - 250
speakers - 100 each

thats 800 for 3.1 you can trim some off by going to ebay, craigslist, ect. but is really difficult to get quality under that price

I am 10 feet away from TV. my living room is small.
As suggested above , i searched for home theater in the box and found this. Will it work ? => https://www.amazon.com/Yamaha-NS-SP...384&sr=8-8&keywords=home+theater+in+a+box#Ask

Is AV receiver required for this ?

Those are just speakers. Get this set instead and a 5.1 receiver

https://www.monoprice.com/product?c_id=109&cp_id=10906&cs_id=1090601&p_id=10565&seq=1&format=2

But you have a small room, I would just go stereo like the Rokit 5s I suggested. Waay better sounding.

If you buy the krk, you just need RCA interconnect from your tv to the speakers. They have built in amp.

Energy has been around a long time.
KRK is in the pro audio market, think recording studio.
Monoprice is bargain central for cables, they put together a very good value speaker package.

As you mentioned, to create an equilateral triangle, a long cables is required from TV right? when we create equilateral triangle, the speakers will be on my side ( not on TV side ). Am i missing something? is there any pictorial representation of this equilateral triangle setup available anywhere?

No, side of the tv. Equilateral between you and the speakers.

If not equilateral, at least equidistant to you.

Two RCA cables to speaker.

1) are there a 5.1 speakers with built in amplifier ?
2) can 5.1 speaker set work without AV receiver ?

No two channel. They are active speakwrs so they need to plug into power sockets.
You want 5.1 get the monoprice ones plus receiver but know that the surrounds will need long cables.

Understood. Thank you.
why there are no 5.1 speakers with built in amplifier in the market ? So that separate AV receiver can be avoided ? (I am trying to understand the technical thing here because this looks interesting)

There are home theatre in a box but you don't want any of those going for 300.

the closest thing to a built in amp speaker 5.1 i can think of would be the sonos system, but i have only read about it

also an amp in each speaker would require power at each speaker

some people mix and match, others prefer same company and series, at least for the front 3.

surrounds can be any

well this is what i read
i kept my front 3 the same series
infinity p363's for l/r and pc351 center

sub can be any company

ideally from the same company and line, at least for the front three. no so critical with the rears. Key is really tweeter matching, so you want the tweeter in your front three speakers to be the same so the panning doesn't change tone.

You don't want sounf of a Ferrari to approach from stage left, changes to a Yugo at stage centre than changes back to Ferrari when it gets to stage right.
