So my wife and I went to her parents last night for some hanging out with family and fireworks. We decided we were going to build a sparkler bomb for their viewing pleasure.

It turned out pretty well. I want more though. I had a thought.... what if we could make it fly? So the goal now is to design a sparkler bomb that is launched into the air and ignites way up in the sky. Obviously much more dangerous, so there are a lot of factors to consider... but I think it can be done. Whose with me?!?!?

I threaten to make one every year, but my wife gives me "that look" every time I mention it. Due to drought conditions, this year was definitely not the year for one here.

i'm kind of disappointed. i expected more of a thermite-looking thing but that was mostly just fire. i would not advise firing a missile made of open flame into the sky, smokey the bear would disapprove.

edit: i missed the initial flash due to loading i think. that was actually pretty neat, but again, the residual flame would make me say NO, do not fire that into the sky.

you should try shooting up a powerful rocket with a large container of matchheads strapped to it, though, i bet that'd be safer and possibly epic.

Haha, I know I shouldn't shoot the sparkler bomb into the air... it doesn't mean I don't REALLY REALLY want to though!

well if your going to post something on the Internet, make sure it meets the minimum quality standards that the Internet has come to expect!

Its a freaking 40 second video... holy hell. I didn't think someone would whine about a video under a minute in length would be to long. And Im sorry someone was screaming in the video... lower your speakers. Its about the sight not the sound anyway.

If you tune to a radio station and it's dead air for more than 2 seconds, do you stay on it?

it's YOUTUBE. not a commercial broadcast.

now, if he had said, 'folks, i guarantee i have the best minute of quality video footage ever shot, you have to see this...'

i could see the anger. but he basically just said 'we made a sparkler bomb. via a typical low quality capture device and an internet video hosting site, here's what it looked like.'

if only people put this kind of energy into being highly critical of things that matter...

232 people have viewed this thread, so you are going to get some haters no matter what. Whenever someone posts something remotely personal, there are always a few that will make a derisive comment. Just how the tubes work.

I am surprised I still have all ten fingers to type this after all the reverse engineering I did as a kid. Anyone familiar with CO2 cartidges for pellet guns? Well, when empty they make a superb cartridge to fill with fireworks powder. Glue a fuse in it, and there you go. Fortunately I had acres of woods to play in when I was a kid and didn't get hurt.

That's how my last couple of bombs turned out, which is more incendiary than explosive. When my bro makes them it's just a quick bang that's very, very loud. We both use electrical tape, but I must be doing something wrong.

Needs more screaming and the camera could been a bit shakier. While you're at it, you might as well put a shitty nu-metal song in there too.

How do you clump them? We made three clumps and then used masking tape to tie those together. I'd rather have the light show than the explosion, so I was pretty pleased with how it turned out. I wonder if there is anyway to make it last a little longer though.

The internet doesn't have minimum quality standards, or indeed, any standards at all.

Oh, and cool bomb OP.
