When I was a kid we used to do this with a pipe and match heads. It sucked cutting off all of those match heads though, sparklers would have been so much easier. :\
 
Awesome explosion for sparklers. How did you contain and ignite them?

I filled up a 3" PVC pipe with them as a kid. It was open on both ends.
We propped it up against a few piece of firewood so the blast went out the top, into the air.
We lit 1 sparkler and dropped it in the tube. A plasma like blast blew out the top about 4ft.
It caught the pipe on fire and melted into a pool of pvc.
