The playlist of misery. If the only music I could listen to was the polled bands, I'd quit listening to music. Maybe an hour or two per year.

Although I don't feel this strongly about this, I kinda agree. I'm trying to get out of the 60s and 70s with the bulk of the music to which I'm listening. Having said that, I don't think it's fair to distill the 80s into that poll. That's the problem with polls though. There's a bunch of quality music missing. For starters, you're missing the choice of The Police. I'm sure, as others have, there are others to mention. So much good stuff happened to be released in the 80s. It's all down to taste and flavor. Some great rock came out, some really magnificent pop, new-wave, and some great punk sneaked into the 80s. Hell, there might have even been good country too. You'll have to ask someone else though. :p

I'm sitting here trying to reckon with Pet Sounds. I think it is really good, but when I listen to the backing tracks or the isolated vocals I know that it's really, unbelievably good. Put them into finished tracks and I can't appreciate the genius for the busyness of the production. Oh well. I'll get there. Since it took me so long to get around to PS, I don't mind if it takes a few listens to really get into the heart of the record.

Everyone should love _some_ music. It's good for the soul.
