um, i was wondering if nebody else is having the same problem...

1. overall i've been pretty impressed w/ the onboard sound on the soyo card. i can't really hear a diff btw this and my sb live 5.1 xgamer...however, when i played serious sam using audio option eax enabled, the sound effects were really bad...i switched to direct sound and it was much clearer. nebody know if this would be fixed or am i juss doing something wrong

2. before yesterday i had a cpu fan tht was like 6000 rpm which drove me nuts. i picked up an alpha and grabbed a random 80mm fan (4 pin) from my old computer and set it runnin...knowing that soyo has a cpu temp protection feature (such that if there were no cpu fan installed it wouldn't boot) i tried trickin the system by insertin a 3 pin, 2200 rpm case fan that was also 80 mm to the cpu fan slot. It didn't boot.

what i did was put the 6000 rpm fan back so my comp would start up properly, go to bios, disable cpu temp protection, then unplug the 6000 rpm fan and now everything works. however, it bugs me a lil that im not using the cpu temp protection feature that came w/ the board. did it not boot correctly cuz the mb thought my fan speed was too slow?

thanks in advance~

The issue is the low rpm on the fan. I have had this problem with both MSI and Soyo recently. Must be something to do with the sensor set they are using. I use the Enermax manually adjustable fan on my alpha. You can get splitters from directron and other places that allow you to sense the rpm and draw power from the PS which I highly recommend or make your own. If my expericence is the norm you need around 2500 rpm to pass the test. Nice thing about the Enermax is that it comes with some of the cables you will need to make your adaptor.

Hey guys,
You dont need to have a fan plugged into the cpu header. To bypass the fan sensor, hold the insert key down duting bootup, and then disable the FOC in the PC health status in the BIOS. Also, Im running windows XP, and I CANNOT get the onboard sound to work. I get the drivers installed just fine, and windows has no problems, but i get NO SOUND from the speakers... anyone know whats up?

thanks,
RYAN

Personnally I prefer to use this safety feature. One of the reasons I got this board was so I could monitor all of my fans :)

Sorry to hear about your sound problem. I am running 2000 and the sound is fine but the mic does not work as well as it should, probably a config error on my part.
